maltatoday, SUNDAY, 9 OCTOBER 2016 VIII Elderly Care Saint James Hospital Group unveils world-class eye centre THE Saint James Hospital Eye Clinic in Birkirkara boasts two state-of-the-art operating theatres fitted out with the most sophisticated cataract surgery and refractive surgery equipment avail- able. Speaking at the official opening of the €2.5 million Eye Clinic, Saint James Group CEO Jean Claude Muscat said the new facility "represents a truly world-class ophthalmic centre of excel- lence everyone can be proud of". Centrally located on the Birkirkara bypass, the Saint James Hospital Eye Clinic offers an array of ophthalmic ser- vices including general consultations, cataract surgery, glaucoma treatments, and the very latest refractive surgery procedures for people wishing to do away with their spectacles, contact lenses or reading glasses. Mr Muscat said ophthalmic care was an integral part of the Saint James Group, which also owns and operates a specialist eye clinic in Budapest, Hungary. The new premises were inaugurated on Thursday evening in the presence of the Group's chairman and directors, eye specialists, staff, doctors and stakehold- ers. Mr Muscat thanked eye specialists for supporting the new clinic and con- gratulated them on completing inten- sive training programmes locally and overseas to familiarise themselves with the new equipment. He also paid tribute to staff members. The Saint James Group has opened a cutting-edge specialist ophthalmic clinic that will be a 'centre of excellence' for eye care in Malta Soft launch of St Francis Medical Centre ON the 4th October, Saint Francis Day, patron of Italy, the soft launch of the new International Medical Centre in Malta took place in Naxxar. Here, general practitioners and specialist doctors will ensure their consultation in the patient's native language, and con- nect with top range specialists in their country of origin. The project of the Medical Centre is including medical and paramedical practices, popular in other countries but not yet applied in Malta. St. Francis Medical Centre is located in Labour Avenue 17 - Casal Naxxaro Building (close to the parish church), Naxxar and aims to provide valuable professional medical and health ser- vices to Maltese residents as well as to many foreign resident communities and temporary residents on transit in Malta, in an international environment. The clinic embraces professional Doctors from different parts of the world, wishing to take part in the multicultural project based on Health treatments - services and to spend St. Francis Medical Centre's facilities to exert their Medical Consultations in their native language. The clinic will ensure intercultural connections and import top medical practice world wide. Moreover, with the assistance of computer technology, St. Francis Medi- cal Centre is going to offer qualified e-Science services allowing the con- nection between Patient and Doctor via web and permitting medical advice remotely. Additionally, St. Francis Medical Centre will organize training sessions and special conferences dedicated to important and emerging medical topics during the next years. At the moment the Medical Centre is finalizing the organization and will be soon operating in Naxxar. Why an International Medical Centre? Foreign people that move to Malta in order to become resident are expand- ing every year due to its great climate, social life, business opportunities, favorable taxation and local hospitality. Currently the percentage of expatri- ate resident community is growing over the local population. When it comes to health and taking good care of ourself is very important to talk to doctors in our own language using simple words in describing eventual symptoms. Therefore, we believe that the great hospitality of the Island will be even more distinguished by having such service oriented to the residents and to the long term tourists (students etc.) The Centre aims to be a merging point offering also cultural activities that will be performed within the prem- ises.
