maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 2 NOVEMBER 2016 17 Events V18 and BOV team up to reveal Valletta to students DISCOVER Valletta is a se- ries of brief narratives about locations in the capital city Valletta, available in audio format through MP3, a pack of f lash cards and a map. The packs are being distributed to Form 1 students attending state, church and independ- ent schools around Malta and Gozo. This was revealed during an event at St Ignatius Middle School in Ħandaq, where the second edition of Discover Val- letta packs were presented to the Form 1 students. Present for the press conference were Jason Micallef, Chairperson of Valletta 2018 Foundation and Kenneth Farrugia, Chief Busi- ness Development Officer at Bank of Valletta. Addressing the students, Ja- son Micallef explained that this project was launched for the first time last year and it received very positive feedback both by students and their teachers. "Discover Valletta, is deliv- ering historical and cultural information in an interactive way since children listen to in- formation about 24 sites in Val- letta during school visits to the capital," Jason Micallef noted. "Thousands of kits are being distributed to Form one pupils, every year up to 2018". The Discover Valletta pack includes an MP3 player, loaded with 24 bi-lingual audio tracks. Every track tells the story of a different location in Valletta. There is also a f lashcard that provides fun and educational information about every loca- tion. A map of Valletta link- ing the different locations and tracks is also included in the pack. Students will be able to retain the pack, so that they can revisit Valletta and share their experience with their family. Kenneth Farrugia expressed the Bank 's satisfaction at the outcome of the project. He said, "It gives us great satisfaction to be collaborating with the Val- letta 2018 Foundation on this educational project. Discover Valletta opens a window on the rich heritage that our capi- tal city encapsulates and helps children uncover hidden gems. This project puts technology to good use, providing an innova- tive way in which children can relive our history together with their families." Speaking about the Bank 's involvement, he explained, "It has now been well over fifteen years since Bank of Valletta felt it had to take upon itself the role of Patron of National Her- itage and Culture. This led us to undertake various projects, including several in Valletta, some of which are places that feature in your pack – Teatru Manoel and the Cupola of Santa Caterina d'Italia to men- tion just two instances. As the Maltese Bank, we feel that we are duty-bound to do our bit to conserve what has been hand- ed down to us." HSBC internal audit head to address Malta forum A MIDST rapid changes in the regulatory landscape, the role of internal audit and its impact on business will be covered by Pam Kaur, Group Head of Internal Audit at HSBC, at a conference organised by the Malta Forum for Internal Auditors (MFIA). Pam Kaur, HSBC Group Managing Director and Group Head of Internal Audit Workshop empowering women with the confidence to defend themselves A series of workshops are being organised in Malta aimed spe- cifically at women. The Malta based company organising the workshop, EQUIPP, is a training and consultancy organisation that specialises in services relat- ed to personal and travel safety. The one-day courses have been developed as a response to the variety of ever increasing risks that the modern world presents. The aim is to educate and train women in their own ability to defend themselves by staying aware and avoiding confronta- tion through common sense and confidence. "Confidence in your own abil- ity to defend yourself comes with educating yourself about it, and is a massive advantage when in an unsafe situation." These were the words of top US fash- ion model Gigi Hadid, quoted in Grazia Middle East, following an unsolicited assault at Milan Fashion Week in September. Spread over one full day, the courses are made up of various modules that cover everything from identif ying a problematic situation to how to ensure per- sonal safety. The knowledge gained can be applied in any situation faced during day to day life. The first course will take place on 19th November and special prices are available for early bookers and group book- ings.
