maltatoday, SUNDAY, 6 NOVEMBER 2016 News Authorities alerted to alleged ongoing abuse at Gozo quarry YANNICK PACE ENVIRONMENTAL NGO Flimk- ien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) has said that unauthorised works are taking place to build holding walls for the illegal dumping of building waste at Ta' Muxi quarry in Gozo. "This quarry has been the site of massive illegal dumping in the past – probably the largest abusive dump-site in Malta and Gozo," the NGO said. They said that despite a number of enforcement notices and court orders, the only remedial action that the site owners took was that of covering dumped materials us- ing dry stone walls and a layer of soil. The NGO has questioned the PA's lack of monitoring and re- sponse to illegalities and has called on the authority to take action im- mediately. "The fact that this has been go- ing on for years made it blatantly easy to detect with aerial monitor- ing – so can one blame the public for thinking that the PA's lack of action is due to the fact that these abusers are being protected?"
