maltatoday, SUNDAY, 13 NOVEMBER 2016 39 This Week WITH two of its four 'phases' of ticket offers now sold out, Malta Comic Convention 2016 is experi- encing a surge of enthusiasm from fans ahead of its December 3 and 4 takeover of the Malta Fairs and Con- vention Centre in Ta' Qali. The eighth edition of the MCC – which brings together local and in- ternational comic book creators and fans – will feature an eclectic array of practitioners in the field, the most recent of which have just been an- nounced by the organisers. Among the latest batch of guests to commit to the Malta Comic Con are Titan Comics Brand Manager – and MCC regular – Chris Thomp- son, creators Dan Watters (Limbo), Enrica Eren Angiolini (Warhammer 40,000 – Will of Iron), Caspar Wijn- gaard (Assassins Creed), and cos- player Giulia "Juiz" Sulsenti. Chris Thompson is a world-re- nowned comics broadcaster, event co-ordinator, and academic. He is a key host at Lakes International Comic Art Festival, NICE Conven- tion and Malta Comic Con, and has conducted premier panels and workshops at San Diego Comic Con International, Comicdom Greece and various other venues. His weekly podcast Pop Culture Hound is featured on iTunes and the popular Multiversity Comics site, with past guests including Alan Moore, Gerard Way, Julie Maroh, Mike Mignola and Chuck Palah- niuk. Chris recently joined Titan Comics as a brand manager on the back of an historic Eisner Award win at San Diego in July. Dan Watters is a writer from Lon- don. His first creator owned graphic novel Limbo, created with fellow MCC guest Caspar Wijngaard, was released in 2016 through Image Comics. He is currently working on Assassin's Creed and Dark Souls: Legends of the Flame, both for Titan Comics. "Having been raved at about Malta Comic Convention for a number of years, I couldn't be more excited to be finally making it out there," Watters said. "I've only heard good things about the festival and the en- thusiasm of its attendees, and can't wait to finally meet everyone my- self," he added. Watters will be joined by his friend and collaborator – on the Image Comics mini-series Limbo – Caspar Wijngaard, who is a comic artist and illustrator living in the UK. His work has been published by Image Com- ics, Boom! and Titan. He illustrated for companies such as the BBC, Virgin and Microsoft. Limbo is his most recent published work, which he illustrated in its entirety – from pencils to colours – while also help- ing conceive the story together with Watters. Wijngaard also worked on Assassin's Creed and Dark Souls comics for Titan, and is currently working on his next creator owned series. He enjoys retro video games, bad VHS movies and lasagne. Enrica 'Eren' Angiolini was born in Rome, in 1988. Raised in a fam- ily rich in creativity, she developed a deep love for art since childhood: illustration and photography in particular. She studied foreign lan- guages in High School and Univer- sity, gaining a Bachelor's Degree in Japanese Language and Culture. During her entire life, she never put aside her passion for drawing. She worked as a freelance illustrator and cover artist, until in 2015 she started a career as a comic colourist. After some brief collaborations with several editors (Dark Horse, Aspen Comics), she is now working on her first full series for Titan Comics: Warhammer 40,000 – Will of Iron' Enrica dedicates her free time to her two main hobbies: photography and Historical Fencing. The latter is a martial art she has been practising for nearly six years now, winning national and international competi- tions. She was voted as best cosplayer during the first edition of Arcadia Comics & Games and at Siragames. Amongst other titles and awards, Giulia was also voted as 'Best Dis- ney Character' at Nissa Comics.
