maltatoday, SUNDAY, 20 NOVEMBER 2016 II Motoring THE Opel Mokka X may appear small in size but the sub-compact SUV is definitely big in popularity. The predeces- sor of the latest coup from the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker, the first generation Mokka, has already recorded more than 600,000 customer orders since its introduction in 2012. The stylish looks, lively engine line-up along with the adventurous personality, unrivalled connectivity offer- ing an array of state-of-the-art technologies have seen it be- come one of the most popular vehicles in its segment across Europe. Opel obviously decided to maintain all of the strengths of the predecessor Mokka when developing the new Opel Mokka X while simultaneously making notable tweaks to make the bestseller even more desir- able. Bold, adventurous and refined design The Opel Mokka X' new exterior design displays a bold attitude. Its new front look is aligned with Opel's new design including a wing-shaped horizontal front grille and the dominant, sharp double wing signature of the LED daytime running lights. The front fascia also gets more precisely and elegantly sculpted surfaces. Visually this gives it a wider, more solid and masculine stance. It is continued at the rear with another double wing signature also featured in the optionally available LED tail lamps. The body side retains its sculpted and elegant traits and sporty edge with muscular and athletic lower body lines, energised by Opel's typical 'blade' that sweeps upwards to the rear. On the inside, the Opel Mokka X' ambiance has been totally redefined. The new instrument panel is organ- ised around more horizontally oriented elements. It looks both simpler and purer, as well as sharper and more precise in its execution. The centre stack has been redeveloped around the 7 and 8-inch color touchscreens of the new generation infotain- ment systems. It now im- presses with refined elegance and a purer design with less buttons - many functions are now accessible via the capaci- tive touchscreens. Furthermore, the central information display comes with improved readability thanks to new, crisp 3.5-inch mono and 4.2-inch color screens with white LCD illumination. Adaptive all-wheel drive with new six-speed automatic The sub-compact SUV comes optionally with an intelligent adaptive all-wheel drive system that helped its forebear win two All-wheel Drive Car of the Year Awards in Germany. The system with electronic, multi-disk clutch system can seamlessly distribute power between the front and rear axle from 100:0 to 50:50, while in normal everyday use it runs as an economical front-wheel drive car. AFL LED headlamps and state- of-the-art Opel Eye front camera During the development of the Opel Mokka X, Opel engi- neers once again followed the company's strategy of making innovative technology available to a broad group of buyers by introducing Adaptive Forward Lighting with full LED head- lamps. The new AFL LED system adapts the headlights lighting functions automatically to the driving situation so that the best possible light performance is given without glaring other drivers. It features nine dif- ferent functions such as town light, country light and tourist mode. This full LED system replaces the previous BiXenon AFL+. On one hand, LED features a light quality that allows seeing the 'true' colors of things, to the benefit of visual comfort. In ad- dition, as there is no mechani- cal operation within the lamp module, it is faster and more accurate in its reaction, while also being highly reliable over time. Furthermore, the new headlamps use less energy and are thus more economical. Furthermore, the state-of- the-art Opel Eye front camera with a higher resolution and an increased image processing power has a positive impact on all the functions it supports, including the High Beam Assist of the AFL LED lighting system. Due to the improved camera and the optional navigation support sending traffic signs to the on-board-system, the enhanced Traffic Sign Assis- tant of the Opel Mokka X has a further increased detection rate. Connectivity & comfort Apart from being one of the best-connected cars in its seg- ment, the new Opel Mokka X can also claim to be one of the most comfortable. The all-terrain all-rounder also receives a further comfort fea- ture: Keyless Open and Start. The driver does not need to actively press the button on his car key to open or lock his car. He just keeps the key in his pocket or bag and presses the small button on any door han- dle to enable or disable access to the passenger and cargo compartments of his vehicle. The vehicle's start / ignition interface is also keyless. With its proven off-road capabilities, complemented powertrain lineup, outstanding connectivity offer, exceptional comfort features and new, fresh and bold design, the new Opel Mokka X is perfectly placed to continue the undoubt- ed success of the outgoing model while simultaneously attracting new customers to the brand.
