45 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 4 DECEMBER 2016 Specialist recruiters Castille at Sigma 2016 CASTILLE, a leading specialist recruitment and search firm in Tech and Financial talent partic- ipated in Sigma 2016 organising panels in relation to HR, Regula- tion, Engagement & Retention in the Gaming Industry. The opening statement to the series of panels referred to one of the articles of the Harvard Busi- ness Review wherein engage- ment with millennials in general was cited as a top 3 concern for leading CEOs. Panellists Jamie Debono (Igaming Academy), Thomas Mahoney (MGA), Mi- chael Caselli (Igaming Busi- ness) & Savior Balzan (Modera- tor / MediaToday) discussed the unique position of Malta to de- velop its global relevancy in iG- aming on a global scale through education. They also discussed why companies in Malta should support the education effort and how these courses can help pro- fessionals develop further and in turn increase talent to our coun- try since at any one time there are over 1,000 vacancies within gaming in Malta along. The second panel discussed the delicate subjects of Skills Short- ages, Emerging Employment trends and the associated Legal and Tax implications. With their extensive knowledge in legal, audit and recruitment, Dr. Paul Micallef Grimaud (Ganado), Dr. Matthew Brincat (Ganado), Mirko Rapa (PwC) and Matthew Camilleri (Castille) discussed the reasons and evolving trends behind skills shortages, with candidates capable of software development being a prime ex- ample of the situation faced by many firms around the world. The demand is always exceeding the supply of available talent and Ian Busuttil Naudi as modera- tor questioned the panellists on ways of mitigating these short- ages through different methods, mainly through targeting of more EU candidates and third party nationals, using remote working, providing Internships and partnering with outsourcing providers. During the 2nd part of the event, Nathan Farrugia, CEO at Ultimate Performance took the stage and spoke about how one can future-proof their people to outperform competition. In this keynote, neuroscience met hu- man resource management, mo- tivation theory and performance strategy, to stimulate the audi- ence into thinking about how to prepare the workforce for mas- sive change. The final panel had a greater fo- cus on Employee Engagement for Digital Workers. From the expe- rience of specialists and industry research, it is known that Digi- tal Workers request and need varying workplace elements, not necessarily requested by other industries. The panel mem- bers Omar Bitar (Poker stars), Katharina Mifsud (Tipico), Mar- tin Schillig (Betsson), Marvin Cuschieri (FHRD) and Matthew Camilleri (Castille) contributed by using their experiences in us- ing the "HR Tool Kit" in order to optimise employee engagement and retention. Such tools include Training and Development, Re- wards and Compensation, Tech- nical Challenges, Positive Work- ing Environments, Diversity in the working place and the possi- bility for employees to thinking outside the proverbial box. Further details about the pan- els are available on request. Stock up on your Harley- Davidson merchandise CHRISTMAS is at our doorstep; it is the season for handing out gifts to all our loved ones. Atlas Insurance PCC wins best European cell captive initiative ATLAS Insurance PCC's cell business expertise was ac- claimed internationally when it won Best Cell Captive Initiative for the 2016 edition of the Euro- pean Captive Services Awards. Organised by Captive Review, the European Captive Services Awards reward firms and ser- vice providers in the insurance industry which demonstrated the highest levels of excellence over the past 12 months. The winners were announced during the award giving ceremony that was held in Luxembourg, back to back with the biennial European Captive Forum which brings to- gether over 1000 industry stake- holders. The judges commented "The Maltese cell company specialists clearly showed a commitment to the protected cell company (PCC) structure and its innova- tive use for a range of clients. The judges were impressed by the Atlas understanding and f lexibility of PCCs, which is becoming particularly apt and more in-demand in a Solvency II world." Atlas's CEO Michael Gatt praised his team and added "This is yet another recognition of the expertise our team has built over the past decade in this special- ized sector, having assessed and implemented a variety of direct third-party, reinsurance and captive cells. This is also recog- nised by leading global insur- ance management companies that use our independent facility for their clients with manage- ment outsourced back to them." As a full EU member state, Malta presents opportunities for cells to write risks directly across the single market. Small mono-line insurers and cap- tives have found cells to be a more efficient alternative to having standalone companies. Where otherwise the EU's regu- latory capital and governance requirements could be a barrier to entry for start-ups including InsureTechs, Atlas is enabling such new entrants into the Eu- ropean insurance market, cata- lysing innovation.
