Jean Paul Farrugia sent a header that hit the post. The Spartans went ahead on the brink of half time when Matthew Degabriele awarded Ħamrun a penalty after John Mintoff handled the ball inside the penalty area. From the 11 metres mark, Jake Grech made no mistake and finished past Glenn Zammit. Ħamrun increased the margin of the score on the 61st minute. Jake Grech received the ball on the right f lank and sent a cross inside the penalty area which Marko Potezica def lected inside his own net. Things went from bad to worse for Sliema on the 66th minute when John Mintoff was shown his second yellow card. Four minutes later, the Wan- derers were awarded a penalty when Jean Paul Farrugia was brought down inside the pen- alty area. Denni Rocha Dos Santos took charge of the penalty and con- verted past David Cassar. Jacques Scerri 's side nearly in- creased the margin of the score on the 79th minute when Mas- similiano Giusti saw his effort hitting the crossbar.
