maltatoday, SUNDAY, 29 JANUARY 2017 VI Gaming First iGaming Course to be launched at the institute of Information and Communication Technology at MCAST in Malta THIS course is described as a 'pilot' course which will ultimately raise awareness regarding the industry and the industry opportunities. As Malta continues to build on its success within the iGaming industry and reach new heights with over 9,000 active employees expected throughout 2017 as well as a higher contribution to the country's GDP, it is essential that more initiatives are developed to help further secure and grow this market. Jaime Debono, MD of the iGaming Academy said "The iGaming industry continuously requires highly skilled ICT professionals to join its workforce, by merging an industry recognised iGam- ing course with the MCAST Batchelor of Science courses related to ICT. Stu- dents will now be given more opportu- nities to explore the iGaming industry as a possible career path." Thomas Mahoney, Project Director at EGIM stated "Education and train- ing are fundamental to the growth of any industry, so it is only a matter of time until Digital and iGaming become an educational career path for most students." Vince Maione & Conrad Vassallo at MCAST mentioned "We are also exploring ways to include other key studies related to the iGaming industry to the full-time and also the part-time courses in other institutes apart from ICT to prepare students for the various employment opportunities that the iGaming industry is creating such as fraud and security, legislation, product knowledge, business analytics and marketing." About EGIM The EGIM initiative is a first of its nature in Malta and the EU. The Euro- pean Gaming Institute of Malta aims to align specific industry education and training including transferable learning from the gaming sector to various ar- eas within the digital sector. EGIM will be focusing on land-based business operations as well as on online gaming operations. EGIM's objective is to un- derstand the current industry skills set shortages and to prepare for upcom- ing skill sets needed to build products based on forecasted trends. EGIM promises to raise awareness through various channels of communication re- garding the gaming and digital industry with the general public and with the upcoming working generations.
