15 WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY Central International Music Competition 2017 Central International Music Competition2017 open for individual soloists and chamber music ensembles. Singers and any orchestral instruments with/without piano, including accordion, cimbalom, piano ensemble and Chinese traditional instruments. Running until 6 February. Malta Cafe Scientifique Malta Cafe Scientifique hosts Dr Alessio Magro and Dr Andrea DeMarco as they look at data generated from the world's largest radio telescope, the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) in a plight to understand how the universe started. Taking place at the Spazju Kreattiv cinema room at St James Cavalier in Valletta at 7.30pm. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FEBRUARY 11 Rhythms of Vision 'Rhythms of Vision' connects contemporary music with video art and photography, and will be taking place at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta at 20:45. This concert features a programme of '20th century and contemporary chamber music. Each work in the programme is assigned to a video artist, portraying a visual backdrop to the live performance of the music. 'Rhythms of Vision' is part of the Modern Music Days concert series, organised by the Manoel Theatre in collaboration with the Malta Association for Contemporary Music, supported the Valletta 2018 Foundation. FEBRUARY 11 Promise Keeper & Sam + Ziz (Brodu) Gig by American band Promise Keeper with support from Zizza and Samwel of local act Brodu at Young Falcon, Floriana at 21:30. Promise Keeper live shows combine the aesthetics of a Weimar cabaret with sophisticated pop that marries seductive vocals and pared-down post punk guitars and synths with nods to vintage analogue funk, Italo-disco, country, and blue-eyed soul. Also featuring DJ sets by Karl Baldacchino and Kurt C. Calleja. Entrance is at €8. Organised by Be-Wild events. FEBRUARY 17 Moving Mountains: 10 Years of nosnow/noalps Ten-year anniversary concert for alternative rock band nosnow/ noalps at The Palace Theatre, Paola at 20:00. Bookings: http:// bit.ly/2jwigzs. FEBRUARY 17, 18 Symphonic Beatles Orchestral concert of classical interpretations of Beatles songs at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta at 19:30. Featuring the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the Amadeus choir, all under the direction of conductor Maestro Alan Chircop. The grand finale, brought the orchestra, choir and guest soloists together. Orchestral arrangements by Wayne Grima. Produced by Rocco Buonvino. FEBRUARY 17, 18 Rebecca Binnendyk at the Jazz Cave Canadian jazz singer Rebecca Binnendyk will be performing at the Jazz Cave, St Julian's. She will be accompanying Carlo Muscat and his quartet, including Clint Campisi (guitar), Dean Montanaro (bass), Joseph Camilleri (drums). Exhibition held at Spazju Kreattiv, St James Cavalier, Valletta presented by Fabrizio Ellul and dealing with the consequences of terrorism on communities in Europe. The exhibition is divided into three parts: an installation of digital drawings, a video installation, and a panel discussion (the latter of which took place on January 25). An artist talk on February 3 will conclude the project in which the artist, Fabrizio Ellul, discusses potential future projects based on the theme of European communities. The exhibition is curated by Matthew Attard. UNTIL FEBRUARY 26 Snuff Boxes: From Accessories to Objets d'Art Exhibition of historic snuff boxes at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, Mdina. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 16:30. The exhibition brings together two hundred snuff boxes and related artefacts, sourced from museum, ecclesiastical and never-seen-before private collections in a show that charts the history of the snuff box from the most stunning examples to the variety of boxes that were created to hold the once precious powder, snuff.
