Floriana went close after just three min- utes. From a free kick, Mario Fontanella sent the ball towards Amadou Samb whose head- er hit the post. On the 14th minute, Floriana had another chance on goal. Ignacio Varela sent Samb through on goal. However, the Senegalese player was denied by Jurgen Borg. Samb went close again for Floriana on the 28th minute. The midfielder's header was cleared off the line by Andre White. The Maroons responded on the half hour mark. Juan Carlos Corbalan fired a close range shot that was blocked for a corner. Gżira had another attempt on goal on the brink of half time. Ige Abdullahi Adeshina saw his shot hitting the side netting. Giovanni Tedesco's side had a good chance on goal on the 50th minute. Following Steve Pisani 's cross, Nayar forced a good save from Borg. The Greens went ahead on the 56th min- ute.
