UNTIL JULY 10 Victoria International Arts Festival For the 20th edition of the Victoria International Arts Festival, a series of 37 concerts, together with exhibitions, master classes, and specialised talks will be presented in Victoria, Gozo. This is a five- week period of uninterrupted musical and cultural activity that is attracting tourists and music- lovers who visit Gozo specifically for the Festival. As for the past nine years, the opening and closing concerts of the Festival will see the participation of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Joseph Vella, Artistic Director of the Festival. PUBLIC LECTURE JUNE 13 A Journey Through Maltese Saudade Public lecture by Dr John Paul Cauchi at the Victor Pasmore Gallery, Central Bank Annexe, Valletta at 18:30. Dr Cauchi will take a 'Journey of Maltese Saudade' which considers the landscapes of the past, the struggles of the present, and the promise and hopes for the future. FILMS JUNE 13 Michelangelo: Love and Death One-time screening of the documentary Michelangelo: Love and Death at Eden Cinemas, St Julian's at 20:45. Spanning his 89 years, Michelangelo – Love and Death, takes a cinematic journey from the print and drawing rooms of Europe, through the great chapels and museums of Florence, Rome and the Vatican to explore the tempestuous life of Michelangelo. It goes in search of a greater understanding of this most charismatic figure, his relationship with his contemporaries and his immense artistic practice that included painting, sculpture and architecture. JUNE 16-25 Valletta Film Festival Third edition of the Valletta Film Festival – featuring a selection of brand new and critically acclaimed films screened in various venues around Valletta, along with related Q&A sessions and workshops. Featuring 40 feature films and 25 short films being screened. Free screenings are also held at Pjazza San ?or?, Valletta, while masterclasses, conferences, and debates provide a platform through which participants can discuss film and contemporary affairs over the course of the festival's programme.
