Making the most of the long Mnarja weekend, Maltese crews set sail early in the morning for the start of the Camilleri Ma- rine Ragusa Weekend Regatta, organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, with the assistance of the Porto Turistico Marina di Ragusa. Offshore races are always a keen affair, with close-sailing action taking place in the heart of the Mediterranean. As wind conditions at the start of the race were light, the lighter boats made the most of this opportunity to gain a degree of advantage on the higher rated boats. However, as the fleet progressed towards Ragusa and were out on open water, wind started picking up thus narrowing the gap. A wind shift resulted in most boats stopping or moving slowly however wind pick up again to a constant speed allowing for the first boats to reach Ragusa at around 19:30hrs. Whilst in Sicily Maltese boats took the oppor- tunity to race against their Sicilian counterparts in the Trofeo Achille Boroli Challenge and the Hyblea Cup. Hot competition between Maltese and Sicilian crews ensured but it was Anton Calle- ja's Lartista who beat off stiff competition to re- tain the winners' trophy for the second year in a row. A Prize Giving Evening was later held at the Roy- al Malta Yacht Club in the presence of Camilleri Marine representatives, crews and Cub Members. Prize Winners were presented with trophies and a selection of sea safety and rescue related equip- ment which was generously donated by Camilleri Marine. The Club will now take a short break from racing which is set to return on the weekend of the 8th September with the Ramla Weekend Regatta. More information on the Royal Malta Yacht Club and its racing calendar can be found on www. rmyc.org HAAS will retain its current driver line-up of Romain Gros- jean and Kevin Magnussen in Formula 1 next season, accord- ing to team owner Gene Haas. Haas recruited former McLar- en and Renault racer Magnussen to partner Grosjean for 2017, the Frenchman having been a mem- ber of the squad since it entered the sport last year. The operation holds seventh place in this year's standings, with both Grosjean and Mag- nussen scoring points regularly, and Haas says its line-up will not be altered into 2018. "We will run with the same drivers that we have this year again next year, that is a given," Haas told the official F1 website. "And given the other continu- ity aspects, we should be better racers next season." Haas has already matched its 2016 points tally of 29 at the midway stage of the campaign, aided by Magnussen contrib- uting to the total, a feat not achieved by predecessor Este- ban GutiƩrrez. Haas hopes his team can end the season having doubled its points total from last year, given that both drivers are challeng- ing for the top 10. "He can score points and that was the key for bringing him on board," Haas said of Magnus- sen. "Kevin can grab points and Romain can too. We now have 29 points. Last year around this time we also had 29 points, but did not score for the rest of the season. "So now if we can score anoth- er 29 points by Abu Dhabi, that would be a great position." Haas says it will retain drivers for 2018
