M e a n w h i l e , former home affairs min- ister Manuel Mallia has confirmed he is to be appointed as chairperson of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA). During the last legislature, Zammit Lewis was appointed minister for tourism in 2014 but he did not retain his port- folio after he was unable to secure a parliamentary seat in last month's snap general elec- tion. He was then elected to par- liament by means of the La- bour Party's casual elections for seats vacated by candidates elected on two districts. The MP confirmed to this newspaper that the passport agency had engaged his firm, however he said he was not at liberty to divulge details about the engagement. Moreover, he pointed out that this did not mean he was work- ing for the agency, and was by no means a member of Identity Malta's in-house legal team. "I am not sure whether I am the only one but yes my office has been engaged by Identity Malta," he said when contacted by MaltaToday. During the last leg- islature, the govern- ment was accused on a number of oc- casions of sup- p l e m e n t i n g MPs' wages t h r o u g h c h a i r - manships and roles in a num- ber of government agencies and institutions. "I follow the law," Portelli replied curtly, as he evaded the question on whether he is ready to publish a dec- laration of the assets he owns. There is nothing in the law that obliges candidates of a party leader- ship contest to publish their financial holdings. Adrian Delia Chris Said Alex Perici Calascione Frank Portelli
