"The bachelor degrees launch was a significant step for the institute and having this large intake on the first year was unexpected to say the least," ITS CEO Pierre Fenech said. "We had a positive response from the day of the launch and until a few weeks ago, we were still accepting applica- tions." He said ITS's aim was to provide students with all the tools needed for a success- ful career in the tourism and hospitality industry. "We are well aware that there is a high demand for personnel in the industry and the institute is working hard each year to address this challenge, in fact we have had a higher amount of applications for all other ITS courses than the previous years," he said. The bachelor degree pro- grammes have been pursued by ITS Higher National Di- ploma students who chose to continue with their stud- ies to degree level, and also individuals who have not previously studied with the institute and are entering a degree with A levels from an- other educational institute. As part of their studies, students will undertake an international internship with reputable collaborative Uni- versities and Institutes. The Bachelor in Culinary Arts (hons) is offered in col- laboration with the Institute of Paul Bocuse, France, the Bachelor in International Hospitality Management (hons) is offered in collabo- ration with the University of Applied Science of Haa- ga-Helia, Finland, while the Bachelor in Gastronomy (hons) is offered in collabo- ration with The University of Malta. Minister for Tourism Kon- rad Mizzi highlighted this achievement as an important one for the Maltese tourism industry. He emphasised the impor- tance of developing world- class human resources to improve our service offering. The private sector invest- ments pursued in the sector are testament to the confi- dence in the country and the capability of its students. Mizzi commended the In- stitute of Tourism Studies' in launching its first Bachelor's degrees and wished all new ITS students a successful experience. He also looked forward to further collabora- tion with International Uni- versities and Institutes in the coming years.
