maltatoday WEDNESDAY 18 OCTOBER 2017 Sport 22 MOTORSPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHARLTON BUTTIGIEG PHOTOGRAPHY Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2018 THE Gozo Motocross Association organised its first round of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2017/18 with riders participating in one of the most challenging and toughest rac- ing ever seen at Ta' Xħajma Track. Races started at 1pm and the afternoon proved to be an ex- tremely enjoyable experience both for riders and spectators alike. There were two Maltese visiting riders who joined their Gozitan friends in great sportsmanship. As usual the event was divided into three cat- egories. In Class A , former champion Etienne Bigeni came in first, followed by Maltese rider Stefan Dimech and Steve Xuereb on his Honda CRF 250cc and respectively. The three riders fought for 1st place while Keith Bugeja in his de- but race with Class A raced against Robert Spi- teri who ended in fourth place followed by Bugeja. In Category B, Nataniel Camilleri acquired the full 60 points aboard his Yamaha YZ 250cc while Joseph Luke Gauci and Brandon Slowe achieved the same amount of points which put Slowe in a advantageous position according to the associa- tion's rules. Godfrey Bigeni followed closely while Jorn Stellini and Frank Xuereb ended in fifth and sixth place respectively. Class C, had eight riders. Matthew Buttigieg de- buted for the first time, and achieved maximum points. Anthony Fenech on a KTM 144cc came in second place and Matthew Spiteri in third place. The second round of the Yamaha Gozo Moto- cross Championship will take place on the 12th of November 2017. Riders are always welcome.
