CONFERENCES NOVEMBER 26-17 Issues in Contemporary Political and Social Philosophy The Department of Philosophy of the University of Malta is host- ing the 4th edition of Engaging the Contemporary (EtC), a two- day conference at the University of Malta. Engaging the Contem- porary 2017 addresses current debates in political and social philosophy by examining differ- ent theoretical approaches as well as their application to existing political and social realities. The first keynote speaker of EtC17 is Peter Sedgwick from Cardiff Uni- versity, with a paper entitled 'Hob- bes, Sovereignty and Biopolitics'. Taking cue from Valletta's run-up to the title of ECoC in 2018, this con- ference analyses the effects of such branding and re-position- ing strategies by exploring re- search, policy and practical ex- amples carried out by different researchers, academics, policy makers and cultural practition- ers, and by combining policy and strategic aspects with practical, on-the-ground perspectives.
