LAST week, a consortium of six Eu- ropean higher educational institu- tions addressed a Media Conference held at the Hotel Kennedy Nova in Gzira to launch an innovative on-line programme which is certified by the National Commission for Further & Higher Education in Malta, the NCF- HE, and is co-funded by Erasmus+. This is an eighteen month on-line 90 ECTS Credits Level 7 Masters pro- gramme led by Advenio eAcademy with the participation of another five European HEIs including the Univer- sity of Ioannina – Greece, Szent István University – Hungary, University of Bari Aldo Moro - Italy, University of Žilina - Slovakia, and Poltava University of Eco- nomics & Trade - Ukraine. Each of the representatives of the HEIs spoke briefly on the motivation of their Universities to join the project which sought to iden- tify and develop best practice in on-line learning at post graduate level for entre- preneurs. Stephen D'Alessandro, director of Ad- venio eAcademy the lead partner in the consortium, spoke about the shared ob- jectives of the consortium to develop and enhance best practices in on-line gradu- ate education. He said that the MHEI- ME was an innovative programme in many ways, primarily because: • It is the fruit of collaboration over the past three years between six Eu- ropean Higher Educational Institu- tions; • It is an on-line course designed as a holistic programme, delivered in English and integrating six founda- tion subjects and three specialist subjects, an internship module and a business plan module; • It provides a combination of self- learning and collaborative learning activities designed to meet the needs of international graduate entrepre- neurs who require post graduate education which will give them a competitive advantage in leading their SME organisations; • It is an online course certified in Malta by the NCFHE providing stu- dents with a certainty on the validity of the ECTS accreditation at Masters level; D'Alessandro thanked the GRTU Chamber of SMEs and the Malta Em- ployers' Association for their support and encouragement reflected by their presence at the launch of an activity which should be of direct benefit to their members. The MHEI-ME is an Erasmus+ co- funded project reflecting the EU recog- nition of the initiative. This co-funding also provides for granting of scholar- ships to students on the first intake com- mencing in April 2018. Applications for Intake 1 are now open to entrepreneurs in possession of a first degree and direct experience in the SME sector. One of the clubs that they sponsor is Swieqi Yobetit Phoe- nix who were formed as a club in 2010 and are currently one of the most successful clubs around. The club managed to start off this season with a bang, winning the Independence Cup in September – a consid- erable achievement. The handball league in Malta is made up of five clubs with five teams competing in the highest division and eight teams com- peting in the 2nd Di- vision in the men's category. After tak- ing a look at the sport and the dedication of the club to their ideals, a collabora- tion and sponsorship agreement was signed between Yobetit and Swieqi Phoenix in June 2017, making Yobetit the main sponsor of the club. The Malta Handball Cup is played out once every year and this time there were five teams participating: Swieqi Yobetit Phoe- nix, Luxol, La Salle Multilotto, Aloysians ProMinent & Kavalli- eri RS2. Swieqi Yobetit finished runners-up of the competition after winning three games and suffering a tight loss against Aloysians Prominent Handball Club, that ended up winning the competi- tion. The competition was only for first divi- sion teams. The Malta Handball League kicked off this past Saturday with Swieqi Yobetit pitted against the current champions Aloysians Prominent Handball Club. The campaign got on to a great start with a fine victory for Swieqi Yobetit by 28 to 20. Swieqi Yobet- it Phoenix can be reached at info@psc. com.mt .
