maltatoday SUNDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2017 33 This Week On that note, one of your most recent consistent gigs has been illustrating Green Arrow for DC Comics. What is it about the character, his rogues gallery and supporting cast that you find cool or inspiring? Yes, Green Arrow be- came "my" character, and to be honest he was always something of a favourite of mine. DC themselves were the ones to suggest that I draw that character in particular. I'll be honest, at first I wasn't all that up to speed with all of his adventures and the backstories of all of the side-kicks and second- ary characters... but as time went on, I got into the essence of the char- acter and what he's all about, and now it's in me forever. What fascinates me about him is that he let go of his life as a rich heir, realising that this was a path towards self-destruction. He then became a fighter against unscrupulous business sharks, also against class injustice and racial prejudice. And he's definitely a lone wolf... he may have allies like Black Canary, Green Lan- tern, Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman, but he never actually joined the Justice League, preferring to stay alone and atone for what he believes are his past sins. What are some of your most favourite things to draw? Perhaps my favourite thing, period, is to create and give life to characters. It's a job I hope I'll get to hold on to for a long while yet. Are you looking forward to Malta Comic Con? What kind of vibe are you expecting to find there? Of course yes. I expect that I'll get a chance to bump into old friends and colleagues, whom I've met at previous events, and I hope to meet some new friends along the way too. Above all though, I'm really looking forward to meeting fans, and just having fun over the next few days. Curtain into four-colour bliss On that note, one of your expecting to find there? the next few days. Otto Schmidt will be present at Malta Comic Con 2017, that is being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta on December 2 (10:00-18:00) and December 3 (11:00- 19:00).
