54 maltatoday SUNDAY 10 DECEMBER 2017 Sports SAILING TENNIS VLTC Nexia BT U-16 European Tournament THE final of the VLTC Nexia BT U-16 European tournament was held on Saturday, 2nd December at the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club premises in Paola. Pierre Yves Bailly of Belgium and Amarissa Toth of Hungary were the overall winners of the VLTC Nexia BT European U-16 Tennis Tournament for the Boys' Singles and the Girls Singles' respectively. Christian Kuhne of Switzerland and Hanne Vanderwinkel of Bel- gium were the first runners up for the same categories. Yves and Amarissa stood on the top podium again when they also snatched the winners' titles in the Boys' Doubles and Girls' Dou- bles with their partners Daniils Snaiders of Latvia and Nadezda Khalturina of Russia respectively. The runners-up for the Boys' Dou- ble were Leote Prata and Tomas Pinho of Portugal while Patricija Paukstyte of Lithuania and Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium were the runners-up for the Girls' Doubles. Luke Cann, Director, Nexia BT said, 'We have been proudly sup- porting VLTC for a number of years. Seeing young talent and the dedication of these players who are still in their teens is nothing short of inspiring. Such endeavours har- monise with the Company's ideolo- gy of promoting hard work and ex- cellence in what we do, and sports is an excellent medium to show this being done at its best.' The trophies to the winners and runners-up were presented by Luke Cann and Victor Rutter, Secretary of the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club. Left to right: Luke Cann, Amarissa Toth, Hanne Vanderwinkel and Victor Rutter Unica clinches Raymarine Double Handed Figure of Eight Race by the breath of a whisker OTRA Vez crew's attempt to retain the Double Handed trophy was thwarted by Jamie Sammut's Unica who clinched the trophy by the breath of a whisker, with just one second separating the two boats at the finish line. Thirteen boats, split into two Classes, were on the starting line of Saturday's race, which began early in the morning to light winds which developed in- to stiffer conditions as the day progressed resulting in the f leet spreading out after rounding Filf la and a number of retirements by the time most of the f leet reached the North Comino Channel. In IRC Class 1, battle for honours was fought between 2016 winner Otra Vez and Unica, with the latter crossing the line just a second ahead of Otra Vez. In IRC Class 2 Seawolf of Southampton emerged the clear winner. Sean Borg and Paul Borg Cardona racing on the XP-44 Xpresso were first over the line, etching their name on the Challenge trophy in the process. A Prize Giving evening was held in the presence of crews and Club members. Prizes were presented to the winners by Royal Malta Yacht Club Com- modore Godwin Zammit and Raymarine agents in Malta RLR Yachting Limited representative Mr. Christian Ripard.
