When David danced against Goliath BRITISHBORN Lee McCallion has been in the business of per- forming arts for years building up an impressive resume and experi- ence which saw him collaborate with artists in the music indus- try including Elton John, George Michael, Lionel Richie, Gloria Gaynor, Westlife, Jamelia and S- club as well as in theatre produc- tions including White Folks The Musical, Peter pan and Aspects of Dance. He has also supplied the danc- ers for one of Lady Ga Ga's first UK performances at the Brit Awards. Lee trained at Performers Col- lege in London under the direc- tion of producer and choreog- rapher Brian Rogers and has brought this wealth of experience to Malta opening a school for per- forming arts which offers a fresh approach to the rigorous train- ing required and expected in this field. Conceived and launched just over a year ago, this small but mighty academy recently made waves locally at the recently held Maltese island festival where stu- dents from the academy, compet- ing against more experienced stu- dents from established schools, took home coveted awards for Musical Theatre and Drama among others. This festival is affiliated with the British and International fed- eration of festivals and students from the Brit Academy were up against dancers from more heavy weight schools with years of expe- rience behind them The structure of the academy has been fine-tuned and curated to ensure that a fresh approach to training is offered. Students are encouraged to think and train like athletes while covering the core subjects of dance, acting and vocal studies. A team of internally trained advisors ensures that the academy is up to date on the ever- changing trends in the perform- ing arts world and a liberal pro- gressive attitude is encouraged. The academy strives to offer its students as many internationally acclaimed opportunities as pos- sible and has just secured places for students to attend a course at the prestigious Laines theatre arts college in the UK this Easter. Laines boasts Victoria Beckham as one of its more famous gradu- ates and enjoys a reputation of be- ing a top colleges for performing arts in Europe producing gradu- ates who quickly find fame and fortune in the west end, movies, tv and record industries. Brit Academy is currently ac- cepting applications for the new term.
