45 Events maltatoday SUNDAY 28 JANUARY 2018 BNI: networking to promote business growth in Malta REPRESENTATIVES from the business community will be join- ing the 5th BNI Annual Network- ing Event – Malta on Tuesday, 6 February 2018 at be.HOTEL, St George's Bay, St Julians. Forming part of the Interna- tional Networking Week, an initiative of Business Network International (BNI) occurring on 5-9 February 2018, the Malta Event presents an opportunity for networking to companies, organisations, and individuals to start 2018 by taking proactive steps to strategically use net- working to promote their busi- ness growth. The International Networking Week this year is all about diver- sity. "A diverse personal network enables you to have people in your circle who are connectors to other communities, to oth- er people, where you may lack contacts," says BNI Founder Ivan Misner. "The more diverse your network, the stronger it will be. Diversity is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do when it comes to networking." This year the focus of this event will be to understand the concept of good networking and to listen to testimonials by speakers who will offer their experiences on how BNI has helped their businesses to grow. Following a 3,400 response survey among business people around the world, Misner iden- tified the top characteristics of what people believe makes a great networker. Being a good listener and having a positive attitude is very important. A third important element is help- ing others by being collabora- tive, along with being sincere and trustworthy. Misner said: "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Help- ing people, shows that you care. Each of these characteristics ties into the notion of building mutually beneficial business re- lationships. Only then will you succeed in creating a powerful and diverse network." To be held on Tuesday 6 Febru- ary, the BNI Annual Network- ing event starts at 6.45am in the morning and ends at 8.30am, but it is ideal to allocate up to 10.30am for networking. Par- ticipants can stay on to do 1-2- 1 meetings with other partici- pants they would have met for the first time. It is recommend- ed that one brings along at least 100 business cards. Participa- tion fee is at €10. MEDSERV are pleased to an- nounce that they have secured business in a market, considered by the industry to be the big new en- ergy source on Europe's doorstep. Medserv have just been awarded a three-year-contract with the op- tion of extending for further pe- riods to provide the integrated logistics support services for the production phase of offshore op- erations being conducted by an In- ternational Oil Company. This new contract was awarded through a competitive tender pro- cess and is effective as from 1 Janu- ary 2018. The initial value of the contract is estimated to be over €10 million with prospects for further growth in both its business units, namely, integrated logistics sup- port services and oil country tubu- lar goods. Due to commercial consid- erations, the International Oil Company and Medserv have agreed not to disclose more de- tails at this stage, as discussions are still ongoing with third par- ties that could affect the expan- sion process of the project. "This is a significant win for the company. Besides being a break into a new geographic ter- ritory, the contract itself poses significant potential for growth. The support we are providing is for production and not explora- tion, meaning that the work is long-term. Whereas exploration projects have a lifespan of about three years, production contracts run for significantly longer pe- riods. We are also already dis- cussing further expansion of the services being provided. We have a team on the ground and works are progressing well," commented Anthony Diacono, Chairman at Medserv Group of Companies.
