The permanent artists of this art gallery will be welcoming guest artist Inddia Uruku with her colourful Mandalas. UNTIL MARCH 1 Embedded Exhibition of paintings by Wioletta Kulewska at Palazzo de La Salle, Republic Street, Valletta. A collection of abstract, biomorphic paintings by Wioletta Kulewska, inspired by the marine fossil remains found inside Maltese limestone. Opening hours: 08:30-19:00. UNTIL MARCH 3 Fridge & Mind Exhibition of paintings by Swiss artist Tobias Spichtig at Malta Contemporary Art, 12, Felix Street, Valletta. Opening hours: 13:00 - 18:00 (Tuesday – Friday); 10:00 – 13:00 (Saturday). UNTIL MARCH 11 Xewwex Exhibition of video animation at Space B of Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Valletta by Lisa Iglesias. Iglesias uses an early, labour intensive animation technique to create her videos. The artist composes thousands of individual drawings and collages on paper that she then documents in sequence to produce a sense of motion. Iglesias teases out the 360 degree gesture of drawing and video production, taking a look at the causal relationships between time, subjectivity and wonder. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT MARCH 2 Bark Bark Disco The indie rock band Bark Bark Disco will be performing at Offbeat, 106, Merchants Street, Valletta at 22:00. MARCH 10 Ida Kelarova's Jazz Famelija Jazz-fusion concert at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre in Victoria, Gozo. Ida Kelarova invites the best of Czech and Slovak musicians to collaborate on this music formation that links Romani harmonies and Latin-American rhythms to the sound of a jazz band. The locally-based Organic Choir will open for the show and collaborating with Ida Kelarova's Jazz Famelija later in the set. Kelarova will also present a short workshop based around her 'Everyone Can Sing' concept. THEATRE UNTIL MARCH 4 Collapse Set in a dystopian future under siege, the streets are chaotic and violent, with armed soldiers raping and killing at whim. A young woman named Greta lives together with her damaged boyfriend Robbie. Robbie is not allowed outside for the sake of his safety. The lovers have created a bullet-proof bubble around themselves, full of stories and fairy tales, oblivious to the trouble outside . . . until Stella comes to visit. Then Greta and Robbie's world is turned upside down. This event is being held at St James Cavalier and is supported by the Malta Arts Fund. Warning: Rated 18. Nudity and scenes of a sexual nature. PUBLIC TALKS MARCH 1 Culture Matters Annual seminar about the impact of Valletta 2018 taking place at 09:00 at the KSU Common Room, University of Malta. The seminar includes discussions by the researchers tasked with assessing the impact of the European Capital of Culture title and the Foundation's work over the past three years. The seminar focuses on the topics of cultural participation, branding, tourism, the impact on the community and the impact of the infrastructural projects such as The Valletta Design Cluster, Is-Suq tal- Belt, MUŻA and Strait Street. The seminar also features a guest presentation by Szilvia Nagy from LOCOP, a research organisation focused on cultural policy and supra- regionalfunding across the EU. MARCH 3 Rhythms of the City: a public debate Rhythms of the City: a public debate, draws from Lefebvre's provocations in 'Attempts at the Rhythm analysis of Mediterranean Cities'. The debate will bring together a number of professionals/experts in the fields of interculturalism, multilingualism, cultural festivals and cities – all within the context of this year's The Mediterranean Dimension project. The debate will start with three main provocations and proceed with reactions from a number of professionals/experts, leading to a public debate. It is being held on Saturday between 10:30 and 12:30 at St James Cavalier in Valletta. FILM SCREENING FEBRUARY 28 Book of Love Film screening at the Cinema of Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Writer- director Xue Xiaolu follows up the hit 2013 Chinese-Hong Kong romance, Finding Mr Right, with the sequel, Book of Love. This instalment also reunites lead actors Tang Wei and Wu Xiubo in a new storyline, where two strangers spark up an unexpected romance through handwritten letters. RING-ROAD RACING MARCH 11 University of Malta Ring Road Races Sunday 11 March will mark the 7th edition of this annual road running event, in aid of Hospice Malta. The University races date back to as early as the 80s when University students would gather on the ring road for a showdown of the fittest. Fast-forward 30 years or so and the races have come a long way. Last year was the biggest event yet and managed to raise €3,150 for Hospice Malta! This year the organisers have already raised almost €1,500 and are definitely planning to break the standing record.
