maltatoday WEDNESDAY 25 APRIL 2018 THIS WEEK 15 WHAT'S ON EXHIBITIONS UNTIL MAY 2 Terrae Exhibition of works by Victor Agius at Iniala5 Galleries, Old Treasury Street Valletta. Agius examines the formless matter proper to his own experience of the environment – either randomly or carefully selected sites with their distinctive ecological and archeological features – which all finds its roots in the earth or soil-derived organic materials (raw clay, for instance, beside natural pigments, oils and acrylics). This has allowed him to produce a body of work through which to ref lect upon the subject of human existence in general and the limits of his own existence in particular. MAY 3 Subversive Semiotics – a happening for a billboard Artistic happening by photographer David Pisani and organised by Fragmenta Malta at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq roundabout (Coast Road, next to 'Ċagħaq' bus stop) from 19:00 to 21:00. Centered around a billboard, the accompanying performance will begin at 19:30. UNTIL MAY 12 Broken Dreams – The Architecture of War Photography exhibition by David Pisani at the Malta Postal Museum, Archbishop Street, Valletta. Pisani's work takes us through Cyprus' tormented and unresolved past. As part of the exhibition, an informal walk-through with the artist is scheduled for April 28 at 11:00. UNTIL JULY 1 Dal-Bahar Madwarha The major visual arts exhibition of Valletta 2018 – commemorating the capital city's adoption of the European Capital of Culture title in 2018. Curated by Maren Richter, the exhibition will be taking place across various venues. These include the Pixkerija, the Examinations Centre and the Underground Cistern, all in Valletta. MAY 12 The Garage – 1st Year Anniversary! A night of metal music celebrating the first-year anniversary for The Garage, Zebbug. THEATRE & DANCE TONIGHT AND APRIL 26; 29 AND 30; MAY 1-3; 6, 7 Much Ado About Nothing: Shakespeare at the Pub WhatsTheirNames Theatre production of William Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing at The Pub, Archbishop Street, Valletta at 20:00. APRIL 26-29 Is-Serra Maltese-language adaptation of Harold Pinter's The Hothouse at the Mount Carmel Theatre, Attard at 20:00. Translated by Simone Spiteri and directed by Andre Agius. Fringe theatre and variety show with an 'apocalyptic burlesque' theme at City Lights, St John's Street, Valletta at 20:00. It's post apocalyptic Malta. The enormous weight of the construction boom has caused the island to collapse. The only ones that remain are the filthy dregs of society. Culture, however, is booming with sinister priests, voodoo goddesses, feline slaves and f lesh eating virgins luring victims into their beautifully twisted cabaret. Writers/ performers include: Joseph Zammit, Alex Vella Gregory, Teodor Reljic, Veronica Stivala, Alex Spiteri Gingell, Kevin Canter, Marie Claire Camilleri, Becky D'Ugo, Miriam Calleja, Undine Laverve, Pete Farrugia, Philip Leone Ganado, Nathan Brimmer, James Ryder & Svetlana Pandolfino. (2006) by Guy Maddin Screening of the Canadian arthouse cult classic film Brand Upon the Brain by Guy Maddin at The Royal British Legion Bar, Melita Street, Valletta. Curated by Robert Pisani over the next three weeks, the screening forms part of the Kinemastik Film Club. Doors open at 20:00 and entrance is against a small donation.
