20 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 SEPTEMBER 2018 COMMERCIAL Researchers meet MPs at Science in the House FOUR university researchers have received grants amount- ing to €60,000 from the Uni- versity's Research Fund in the selected categories of Life Sciences, Medical/Health, ICT, Engineering, Built En- vironment, Natural Sciences, Economic, Management, Ac- countancy and Art, Humani- ties, Social Sciences. This was announced during the inauguration of the 7th Sci- ence in the House exhibition at the Parliament Building in Valletta. This exhibition is be- ing hosted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anglu Farrugia, who together with other Members of Parlia- ment, met research scientists this week. Science in the House, a sig- nature annual event brings together scientists and politi- cians under one roof, is a me- dia forum this year showcasing 16 scientific research projects at the University of Malta and elsewhere in Malta. Other science topics on dis- play include electromagnetic medical technologies, monitor- ing earthquakes, marine mi- croalgae and climate change, renewable electrical energy, computer design of new drugs and cancer detection and treat- ment, conservation of old man- uscripts and more. Science in the House is open at the Parliament Building until Saturday 6 October, be- ing Notte Bianca. The event marked the opening of the Eu- ropean Researchers' Night – Science in the City 2018. The Science in the City fes- tival – European Researchers' Night is funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the Horizon 2020 Program (H2020, 2014–2020) of the EU. The consortium is led by the University of Malta, Malta Chamber of Scientists and the University's Research Trust (RIDT), in partnership with Valletta 2018, Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Servic- es, Digital Economy and Inno- vation, MCAST, Esplora, JUGS Ltd, Studio 7, BPC Internation- al, GSD Marketing Ltd, Aqua- biotech Ltd, MEUSAC, PBS, Spazju Kreativ, Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta Local Council, Notte Bianca, Melita, More or Less Theatre, Transport Malta and Arts Council Malta.
