30 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 4 NOVEMBER 2018 SPORTS PREMIER LEAGUE MARCUS Rashford scored a stoppage-time winner as Man- chester United came from behind to snatch a dramatic 2-1 victory at Bournemouth yesterday. The England international ri- fled home from close range after 92 minutes as United got the bet- ter of a resilient Bournemouth defensive display to complete a remarkable turnaround. Bournemouth flew out of the traps and took a deserved lead on 11 minutes thanks to Callum Wilson's sixth goal of the season. But they were made to pay for failing to double their tally as Anthony Martial's fifth goal in five games hauled United level against the run of play on 35 min- utes. United laid siege to the Bourne- mouth goal in the second half but a dogged defensive display, typified by two incredible blocks from Nathan Ake and David Brooks, looked to have secured Eddie Howe's men a point. But Rashford struck in the clos- ing stages to secure a victory that sees United leapfrog Bourne- mouth into seventh in the Pre- mier League. Late goal hands Manchester United the win at Bournemouth ON a day fraught with emotion, Leices- ter City beat Cardiff City 1-0 in their first Premier League game since the death of the club's owner Vichai Srivaddhanap- rabha in helicopter crash. Hot on the heels of the tragedy that hit Leicester City Football Club last week, yesterday served as a small dose of sweet medicine as, at the Cardiff City Stadium, Leicester's players showed total profes- sionalism in testing circumstances when they returned to action. Demarai Gray produced a sharp finish to score the winner midway through the sec- ond half, a goal that sparked wild celebra- tions in front of the 3,000 travelling fans. Unfortunatley the mood was slightly soured when Gray was booked for taking his shirt off in celebration by referee Lee Probert. The visitors had warmed up for the game in special T-shirts bearing tributes to the Thai billionaire, a wreath was laid on the pitch before the game and some players were due to fly out to Thailand for the funeral afterwards. They take with them the satisfaction of a job well done although there will be con- cern over centre half Harry Maguire, who hobbled off with a first-half leg injury. The defeat dropped Cardiff into the rel- egation zone, with Leicester in mid-table. Leicester's Gray brings back some cheer after historic tragedy
