CHRISTMAS C6 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 DECEMBER 2018 CHRISTMAS and science are a wonderful combination, be- cause without science, Christ- mas would be much less fun! Join us at Esplora this holiday season for some educational entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. How does Santa get through the chimney? How does he manage to deliver presents all around the world in just one night? And what's up with the reindeer? It might sound like magic, but in fact there are perfectly logical scientific ex- planations! Come and watch our Christmas show to learn more about Santa's incred- ible properties, appreciate the amazing animal that is the caribou (a.k.a. reindeer), and marvel as we demonstrate some colourful combustion. There may even be an explo- sion involved! Our other science show "Body Wonders" will take you on a delightful romp through the amazing capabilities of the human body. Ever won- dered what happens to your delicious Christmas dinner after you eat it? Help our sci- ence show presenters to dem- onstrate what goes on in your gastro intestinal tract. Just remember that what goes in, must come out… Your youngest compan- ions aged 3 to 6 will enjoy our hands-on human biology workshop activity that's de- signed just for them! Kids will be given the chance to put to- gether a model of the internal organs and the gastro intesti- nal tract (who knew the small intestine was that long?!) to learn about what the inside of their bodies looks like in a visual and colourful way! We're also delighted to be offering a Tinkering Studio: Conductive Science session as a workshop – we've designed an activity for our visitors aged 6 to 10 where they'll get to use their curiosity about electricity and light to build a Christmassy circuit. Drop by our pop-up Shadow Play workshop in the Exhibi- tion building to explore light and shadow, and see what you can create by combining the two. Use our props (or cre- ate your own!) to combine light science with your im- agination. Will you continue a long-standing tradition of shadow puppetry by creat- ing a Christmas story of your own? Did you know that Esplora now has live Planetarium shows on offer? Watching a film in our state-of-the-art fulldome theatre has always been a treat, but now you can also choose a live show where one of our Science Show Pre- senters will take you on a tour of the solar system. Gaze up at the constellations as seen from Malta by night, take a look around the International Space Station, and marvel at the quirks of our neighbour- ing planets. With all these activities and more, not to mention all the exhibits in and around the Exhibition building, as well as two outdoor playgrounds and a cafeteria, it's easy to see that Esplora is a great place to enjoy the Christmas holidays with your family! Dates: From the 26th De- cember till 6th January Closed on Mondays, Tues- day 25th December and Tues- day 1st January.
