CareMalta has always trained its own employees, and around eight years ago the company started pro- viding accredited courses in collaboration with the City and Guilds of London Insti- tute. Then in 2013, CareMalta Academy was officially set up, and five years down the line it is has acquired its own identity branching away from CareMalta. Backed by 25 years of ex- perience in the care sector, there has been a shift from training in-house employ- ees to people who work outside of the company, with students hailing from around the globe, including North Africa and Asia. Over the past five years, more than 1,200 students received a qualification from the academy. As it continued to grow, the academy started provid- ing homegrown courses, de- buting with a course in lead- ership and management. This level four Award in Leadership and Manage- ment targets aspiring mid- dle managers who wish to grow skills such as problem solving and decision mak- ing, performance manage- ment, delegation and moti- vation. In 2019 it will further diversify its portfolio of courses aimed at improv- ing the learner's skills and chances for employment and career progression. The courses are varied, and new ventures include qualifica- tions in professional service within the hospitality, food and beverage sectors. The academy will of course continue to offer courses leading to qualifications in health and social care areas such as advanced care, de- mentia and mental health.
