14 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 13 MARCH 2019 CULĊTURE CULTURE PUBLIC Broadcasting Services has launched the song that will represent Malta in the upcom- ing Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv. Michela, with her dis- tinct and memorable voice, will be singing 'Chameleon'. 'Chameleon' is an upbeat good feel song with a fresh cur- rent pop sound with a Regga- etone grove as well as Cuban undertones. The song has been written and produced by Sym- phonics who have already had a 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in Euro- vision in the last 3 years. 'Chameleon' was recorded in Vienna, Sweden and Malta , whilst the music video was shot all in Malta and produced by PBS. After dedicating the last days to finalize the chosen song and shoot the music video, in the coming weeks Michela will continue with her preparations to take the Eurovision stage on 16th May 2019. Michela Michela who has just turned 18 years of age, currently lives on the tiny island of Gozo - part of the Maltese archipelago known as a hidden gem in the Mediterranean. Her voice, de- scribed by many, as memora- ble, powerful, with a breathtak- ing breaking point all wrapped in one. She loves a wide range of genres from pop, country to soul. From an unknown talent, she exploded on the X-Fac- tor stage, leaving the judges speechless, to winning the final, as if that is the only thing she was born to do. Previously, she won the Music Talent League in Lithuania, was a finalist in the 'Baltic Voices' competition and attended 'Ultimate Art- ist' in the artist development programme in Hertfordshire London, where she also worked with Rhianna's producer. Michela describes herself as "an average teenager but when I start singing it's as if my voice takes over my entire being. Aretha Franklin once said that you sing soul with your whole body. I know exactly what she means." Michela who is currently signed to Sony Music will be representing Malta in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv. Malta's 'Chameleon' TODAY, Heritage Malta is invit- ing the general public to attend the lecture 'Stories and Histories: The genesis of the national collection of paintings and sculptures' at MUŻA, the National Community Art Mu- seum in Valletta. In 2020, MUŻA and Heritage Malta shall be celebrating the cen- tenary from the establishment of the Auberge d'Italie as the seat of what was then known as the Val- letta Museum, and the foundation of the Fine Arts Section which is now MUŻA, relocated to the venue where it was born. Indeed, in February 1920 the proposal to transform Auberge d'Italie into a museum was first proposed as the most fitting venue where Vincen- zo Bonello, the founder of the now MUŻA collection could bring to- gether the nation's treasures. Dr Sandro Debono, Senior Cu- rator at MUŻA, shall present the latest findings and new research about the genesis of the national collection of paintings and sculp- tures. The lecture shall discuss and articulate the challenges of the new museum institution during the inter-war period as it engaged with the challenges of a national identity, then caught between Ital- ophile and Anglophile narratives. The lecture starts at 6.45pm and attendance is free. MUŻA is lo- cated at Auberge D'Italie in Mer- chants Street, Valletta.
