This exciting open air show, has been in the works for months with lead actress Maria Buckle rehearsing together with the rest of the talented cast to tell the story of a prodigy who chooses to defy all odds by chal- lenging the highly conservative male dominated society she was born into. Joan is a defiant and determined female who will stop at nothing to acquire the knowledge she's been so unfair- ly denied of. Music JUNE 21 Grande Serata Italiana Grande Searata Italiana – An evening of musical entertain- ment, food, beverages and prizes including both instru- mental and vocal works which will be in aid of HopeXchange Medical Centre in Ghana. Un- der the baton of Chev Mro Mark Agius, the fifty seasoned and up-coming young musi- cians will perform classical and instrumental works, whilst also accompanying wellestab- lished local singers, Karen Gatt Darmenia (Soprano), Frances Catherine Farrugia (Soprano), Joseph Aquilina (Tenor) and Ivan Vella (Baritone). The or- chestral and vocal concert will be held on Friday, 21st June, at Montekristo Estate at 8.30pm. JULY 9 Dream Theater Rock 'N Malta presents pro- gressive metal pioneers Dream Theater promising a unique, complex yet melodic, hard yet emotional brand of rock which is as sweet on the heart as it is crushing on the bones. Fans can expect a startlingly sublime syn- thesis of soaring and unmistak- able melodies and the virtuoso guitar playing of John Petrucci in a live performance that is big, long and diverse as only Dream Theater can make it. JULY 18 Liam Gallagher Live in Malta If you had to make an equation of all the elements that made the early Oasis singles so apoca- lyptically good - i.e. huge waves of guitar hooks + melody you can't shake for…ever + thun- derous rhythm + LIAM GAL- LAGHER'S VOICE delivering an unbelievably catchy chorus - then Wall Of Glass fits in the lineage perfectly. It's hard to recall a time he's sung better - it's like hearing him for the first time again, the same yearning menace that claimed a million hearts by the end of Superson- ic's first chorus. His voice is def- initely on point. The highlights for this year's pro- gramme are Kenny Garrett, one of the world's most renowned saxophone players, Jazzmeia Horn one of the most important jazz vocalists, who was nomi- nated for a grammy last year, Ozmosys featuring legendary jazz drummer Omar Hakim, one of the most versatile eclec- tic Jazz drummers who has col- laborated with Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Daft Punk and David Bowie and for the second time Chucho Valdés – the Cuban Jazz Legend, sixtime Grammy Award Winner, who will all be performing on the Main Stage at Ta' Liesse in Valletta. Considering that informa- tion technologies have become instrumental in advancing some of the greatest challenges we are facing today. May till the end of June, 2019. Some 35, mostly large paintings and sculptures, will be exhib- ited in this event, representing a wide spectrum of Nigerian Art, executed by several well estab- lished artists, some of whom will be coming to Malta. Comedy JUNE 22- JUNE 23 Dara O Briain- Live in Malta Eden Comedy club are proud to present Dara O Briain! Wit- ness one of the most charis- matic, intelligent, fast-talking and downright funny live co- medians on the 22nd and 23rd of June at the InterContinental Arena Conference Center in St.Julians. Dara O Briain has made a real name for himself as a TV presenter in recent years. Tickets for Dara O Briain are on sale now at showhappen- ing.com Doors open at 8pm Culture JUNE 21- 22 Experience The Summer Solstice On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June, Heritage Malta is once again organising guided tours of the temples of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra to mark the summer solstice. At sunrise on the first day of summer, the sun can be seen rising in particu- lar alignment with these sites. Although it is not known for certain whether these orienta- tions were intentional, they are so systematic that this is very probable. In prehistoric agri- cultural societies, observation of the movement of the stars, the moon and the sun could have been related to the chang- ing seasons and to the times of planting and harvesting crops.
