7.11.19 16 TOWNSCAPES Nominations now open for 2019 MASP awards NOMINATIONS for the 2019 Mal- ta Architecture and Spatial Planning (MASP) Awards have started to be re- ceived by the Planning Authority. e MASP Awards which as of this year are under the patronage of the President of Malta Dr George Vella, serve to give due recognition to ar- chitects, interior designers and any person who would have made an out- standing contribution over the years through research, education, theory or practice of architecture and the built environment. e MASP Awards also seek to de- velop an awareness and appreciation amongst the public on the importance of quality architecture and the value of design in the built environment. is year the awards in total will cov- er 11 categories, following the intro- duction of two new categories. e new categories include the 'Ur- ban Planning Concept' Award which is aimed at promoting projects that are still at concept stage but through which innovative planning solutions address existing challenges within a given space and the 'President's Award – e Personality of the Year for the Built Environment'. is award will be given to that person who would have made an outstanding contribution through research, educa- tion, theory or practice of architecture within the built environment. For this award, a submission may be made by a member of the public or an organisation so long that sufficient ev- idence is presented. A person cannot nominate oneself. e other 9 categories are the Reha- bilitation & Conservation Award, Ur- ban Design Award, Public Open Spaces Award, Commercial Buildings Award, Interior Architecture Award for Resi- dential Projects, Interior Architecture Award for Commercial Projects, Hos- pitality, Tourism Accommodation & Leisure Award, Sustainability Award and the Emerging Architect Award. e finalists of the Awards will be an- nounced on Monday 20 January 2020, while the winners will be announced at a gala night which will be held on Sat- urday 15 February 2020. e jury will be composed of both local and foreign professionals within the field. e jury will also be supported by a technical team, the members of which will be experts in their own fields in ac- cordance with the category topics. e full list of categories and en- try requirements is available at www. maspawards.com Submissions will be received until Monday 16 December 2019 at noon.
