Spanning nearly seven decades, his portraits represent an engrossing study into the dynamic of ageing and the process of self-representation. It's packed with beautiful scores of music, including lyrical arias, celebratory choruses and a heart-breaking final scene. And from one flourishing lover's tale, to another, we welcome a stun- ning production of The Sleeping Beauty, a classic Russian ballet that established The Royal Ballet both in its new home after World War II and as a world-class company. Fast-forward 60 years, the original staging was revived, returning Oliver Messel's wonderful designs and glit- tering costumes to the stage. Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's enchanting music and Marius Petipa's original choreography beautifully combine with sections created for The Royal Ballet by Frederick Ashton, Anthony Dowell and Christopher Wheeldon.
