13.02.2020 7 NEWS THE Malta Institute of Management (MIM) has ap- pointed its first female Director General. A sociologist by profession, Ms Bridget Borg brings to the Institute a wealth of experience in management within the hospitality industry and in recruitment. She holds a Master of Science in Sociology: Con- temporary Social Problems from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology and a Higher National Diploma in Hospi- tality Management. In 2016, Ms Borg was awarded a mention on the Dean's list of the Faculty of Arts, for her outstand- ing academic achievement. She lectures Sociology of Law at the University of Malta and co-founded the Malta Sociological Association and is part of the ex- ecutive committee. roughout the years she studied in five different universities in Malta, the UK, Ireland and in the Netherlands, gaining first hand experience on vari- ous forms of teaching styles, course delivery, meth- ods of assessment and course development. Ms Borg has also worked within the office of the Ombudsman in Amsterdam and within the Ministry of European Affairs and Equality. MIM appoints first female Director General CONRAD Meli, FCCA, MIA, CPA, has been ap- pointed as a new Director of Accounting Services Ltd, part of Business Concept International plc. Meli has over thirteen years of experience with- in the accounting field, where he started off his career as a Junior Accounts Executive with a lo- cal company and eventually joined Accounting Services Ltd in 2016 as an Accountant. Later on, based on his knowledge and expe- rience, he was also entrusted with the role of a Team Manager. Being such an asset to the com- pany, this was the right moment for him to fur- ther his career, and be appointed as a Director. e Board of Directors congratulated Meli, re- ferring to him as "an influential individual within our group". Meli will now be joining his fellow colleague and Director, Joceline Caruana, M.Acc, MIA, Cert. Tax, CPA, who was also appointed as Di- rector of Accounting Services Ltd in 2019. MGI Malta, a member firm of MGI Worldwide, appointed three new senior members, namely Marion Caruana as Audit Partner, and Jean Paul Busuttil and Dr Jason Vella Tabone as Directors. Caruana has been appointed part- ner of MGI Malta, joining partner Franco Privitelli. She joined MGI Malta in 1995 and was mainly in- volved in audits, as she accumulated practical knowledge and experience across various industries. In 2006, she moved to Guernsey with a trust company as senior fund account- ant gaining experience in different funds. Whilst working there she was pro- moted to team leader, then to officer and finally to 2nd VP before moving back to Malta in 2010. In 2014, she re-joined MGI Malta, this time as head of corporate and compliance. After four years working within this unit, she moved back to her roots as an audit manager. Carua- na is a fellow member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and sits on the Institute's audit and assurance committee. Jean Paul Busuttil has been ap- pointed director of MGI Finconsult Limited, joining directors Nicholas Falzon, Raymond Gatt and Franco Privitelli. He started his accountancy career in 2006 and joined MGI Malta in 2009 as head of advisory. On a day- to-day basis he is mainly involved in business advisory, and direct and indirect taxation for both local and foreign clients, accumulating prac- tical knowledge and experience across various industries. Busuttil sits on the Malta Institute of Ac- countants' direct and indirect tax committee. Dr Jason Vella Tabone has been appointed director of MGI Fidu- ciary Services Limited, joining di- rectors Nicholas Falzon, Raymond Gatt and Franco Privitelli. Gradu- ating LL.D in 2010, Dr Vella Tab- one went on to become a senior associate at the Malta branch of a Geneva-based Swiss law firm, spe- cialising in corporate finance and banking regulation. He was recently occupying the post of director and general manag- er of a Maltese trust company and was also head of the corporate ser- vices section of the respective Malta based company. Founder partner and shareholder George Farrugia will be resigning from his directorship and partner role due to reaching retirement age. He will remain, however, as consultant to the board to oversee the smooth transitions in the firm's management structures. MGI Malta was established in 1988 and has grown from a one-person operation, managed by Mr Farrugia, to a leading mid-tier accountancy and consulting firm specialising in compliance relat- ed services, business advisory and taxation work.
