20 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 19 FEBRUARY 2020 CYCLING SPORTS DILLON Cassar and Josann Attard Pulis continued to assert their position as being part of an elite group of athletes that con- tinue to make waves in the road running community when they registered strong wins at the Intersport Dingli 10km Road Race on Sunday. Not short of stunning scenery, the course is notorious for being technical with some steep hills dotting the route, particularly in the last few hundred metres leading to the finish. Dillon Cassar (Raptorz Running Club), a regular feature on racing podiums, took a determined sprint to register an improved time, of forty nine seconds, over last year's race and ensure a comfortable lead over Aaron Mifsud (Pembroke Athleta), who nevertheless gave a very good perfor- mance. In third place was Zurrieq Wolves athlete Matthew Xuereb. In what was a good show of sportmanship Mark Herrera, realising an inadvertent wrong turn gave him a few metres advantage, held back at the finish ensuring that Xuereb gained his rightful third place. Starmax athlete Josann Attard Pulis reigned over the female fraternity winning the race with a four minute advantage over Dzintra Grech. A few seconds behind Grech was Char- yl Fava who's third place finish time also meant an improvement from the previous year. "In spite of the fact, that some runners tend to be afraid of hilly courses, this one has proven to be a popular course. The racing calendar is very hectic, but we are very satisfied to see a good mix of abilities taking part in this route" explained Race Director and Organiser Charlie Demanue- le.
