maltatoday | SUNDAY • 23 AUGUST 2020 13 COMMERCIAL MARSOVIN has produced a special edition Méthode Tra- ditionelle Brut Rosé sparkling wine, the first in Maltese history. This special edition wine has been named 101 Brut Rosé, representing the number of years since the winery was first established. The wine was produced from a blend of Malta's indigenous grape variety Ġellewża and se- lected Chardonnay grapes. "As a Maltese wine produc- er, we are proud of the result achieved, especially since it is a first for Maltese winemaking history. In fact, because we are so proud of the result we have decided to label the wine as a special edition wine. The name 101 represents the number of years of the family's winemak- ing history," Jeremy Cassar from Marsovin said. 101 Brut Rosé was made us- ing the traditional sparkling rosé winemaking method used in other regions around Eu- rope such as Champagne, Ca- va, Franciacorta and Trentino. After the first fermentation of the grape juice, a process known as the assemblage takes place, this is the careful blend- ing of the different base wines to form a cuvée which gives the desired aromas and character of the wine before undergoing secondary fermentation and further ageing in the bottle. The Méthode Traditionelle is a rigorous and intense pro- cess which entails at least 12 months wine maturing on the yeast lees in the bottle prior to disgorgement. The wine is said to have a refreshing natural sparkle, with a complex elegant bouquet. Originally set to run be- tween 26 June and 18 July, the success of the first run led to an extension by a further four weeks. The Festival will be remembered as the major event in Malta's cultural cal- endar in a summer disrupted by the COVID-19 pandem- ic. It also set the standard as the only major event aligned with all the health and safety requirements set by the Mal- tese Health Authorities. The Festival brought to- gether a fantastic cross-sec- tion of local talent, such as week-end performances by Red Electrick, Nadine Axisa, Studio 18, Alex Bezzina and Dominic Galea, the Comedy Knights and Ray Calleja, ac- companied by session bands, musicians from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and emerging young talent, both voice as well as elements from the Malta Youth Or- chestra. On other evenings, the Festival also hosted out- door cinema nights, with drama, classics, musicals as well as a celebration of films shot in Malta. Hervé Delpech, APS Bank Chief Strategy Officer, com- mented: "We are proud to have been the title sponsor of this Fes- tival, produced in collabo- ration with Valletta Cruise Ports and the Malta Philhar- monic Orchestra. "In these challenging times we are pleased to have sup- ported this great event which created a safe space for the public to enjoy a summer of culture and arts while offer- ing artists the opportunity to perform when most events were being cancelled. It was indeed a true celebration of our community values."
