The woman tested nega- tive on the 26th September as part of routine testing being carried out in elderly homes. The woman passed away yesterday, but a swab test that took place after her death confirmed that she was positive for COVID-19 at the time of her death. Health authorities say she was also suffering from un- derlying health conditions. New cases 29 new cases of COVID-19 were registered on Tues- day, the health ministry said. Active cases stand at 517, after 85 recoveries were re- corded. 2,116 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, bringing the to- tal number of swabs to 251,772 since the pandem- ic began. The total number of cases stands at 3,035 while total recoveries number 2,482. The ministry said that yesterday's cases were still being investigated. However, from yester- day's cases one was a di- rect contact of another positive case, one was from St Joseph home, two were imported, two were con- tacts of positive work col- leagues, one case was from the Paceville cluster, and one was related to social gatherings with other pos- itive cases. 29 new cases of COVID-19 registered overnight Woman tests positive for COVID-19 after death Polish thief to be extradited from Malta to serve sentence MATTHEW AGIUS A Polish man has consented to his extradition back to Poland after being arrested in Malta on the strength of a European Ar- rest Warrant. Rafal Ryszard Karakin was presented before magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace this morning by police inspector Mark Galea. Karakin, 28, is wanted to serve a prison sentence in Poland for theft. Assisted by an interpreter, the man consented to being returned to Poland. He will be held under arrest until the ex- tradition is finalised. His lawyer, Joe Brincat, ap- pointed as Legal Aid, argued that the man would effectively be in isolation at the Corra- dino Correctional Facility, as he doesn't speak Maltese or English. The lawyer asked that Karakin's return to Poland be expedited for this reason. Lawyer Ylenia Abela repre- sented the Office of the Attor- ney General in the proceedings. Karakin Rafał AN Ivorian man has been jailed for six months after attempting to use a false passport to travel. Dosso Youssouf, 32 from Ivory Coast, who resides in Italy was arrested yester- day at the airport on his way to Rome after immigration officials noticed that his passport was fake. Youssouf was arraigned before magis- trate Yana Micallef Stafrace this morn- ing by Inspector Christian Abela, who accused him of possession of a falsified passport, knowingly making use of a falsified document and falsifying or al- tering a passport. The accused made an early guilty plea. His lawyer, Joe Brincat, argued for a minimum sentence. The court handed the Ivorian a six-month prison sen- tence. Fake passport lands man six- month stretch
