Life-saving treatment for
ectopic pregnancy depends on
board that works until 2:30pm
LAURA CALLEJA
A doctor wanting to administer
methotrexate to end a woman's
life-threatening ectopic preg-
nancy requires approval from
a government body that works
until 2:30pm, MaltaToday has
learnt.
If the paperwork does not ar-
rive at the Directorate for Phar-
maceutical Affairs before that
time, approval will be given the
next day, delaying the treat-
ment by several hours.
The issue first came to light
when Break the Taboo Malta,
an online campaign platform
showcasing stories of women
affected badly by the total ban
on abortion, published the sto-
ry of a woman who was only
administered the treatment two
days after her ec-
topic pregnancy
was diagnosed.
BOV intent on
settlement on
€363 million
Deiulemar
claim
PAUL COCKS
BANK of Valletta is intent on settling out
of court a claim for €363 million made
against the bank by Italian bondholders
of the defunct Deiulemar shipping com-
pany, even though its initial offer of €50
million has been rejected.
BOV CEO Rick Hunkin told MaltaTo-
day that the bank did not want to drag
the case through the various levels of
court litigation, as it wanted to be clear of
this "shadow that has been
hanging over the bank for
a number of years".
