maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 MARCH 2021 7 MUSIC The New Victorians release Maltese debut 'Min Jaf ', featuring Lapes SISTER-DUO The New Victori- ans have just released their first single of the year, 'Min Jaf ', their first single in Maltese, featuring Malta's Got Talent finalist La- pes. Since their debut in 2015, the award-winning songwriting duo has released singles like Keep Me In Love, Seeker Seek- er and Lie Liar with which they opened for multi-platinum art- ist Anastacia on her Europe- an Tour – Evolution, and for the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2019. The singing sisters spent a busy few years performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festi- val, Piccadilly Church and the Vault Festival London amongst others, until the COVID-19 outbreak turned their world upside down, causing them to cancel a full run of shows at the Manoel Theatre last March. In an attempt to keep the cul- ture and the arts alive during the COVID-19 outbreak, the duo sought out new ways to collaborate and create during these times. Most recently the sisters performed a Christmas Chapel Hop, where they played to eleven sold-out, socially dis- tanced audiences in different Chapels around the island, throughout the Festive Season. Their 2021 debut 'Min Jaf' is the fruit of the Arts Council Covid Grant, a special fund that the sisters were awarded to create original work in col- laboration with local and inter- national artists in an entirely remote way, over the course of 2020. "Admittedly it has been the hardest year for us yet, al- though we are hopeful that the island could do with more mu- sic and more joy during these trying times," the sisters said. This track will be a part of their upcoming EP, which will fea- ture five original tracks in both Maltese and English, created in collaboration with five differ- ent artists. 'Min Jaf' was produced by The New Victorians with additional production, mixing and mas- tering by Howard Keith at Jag- ged House Studios. The official music video was directed and produced by VSQUARED Media, in col- laboration with local fash- ion designer Carla Grima. This project is supported by Arts Council Malta, Europe- an Foundation for Support of Culture led by Konstantin Ish- khanov, Bathroom Design Mal- ta, Fino, Sigma and Dean Gera. Red Electrick releases new single featuring Destiny 2021 is looking to be yet another year that is all about collabora- tions in the local music scene and make no mistake this re- lease by one of the hottest bands around- Red Electrick, featuring Malta's powerhouse female vo- calist and X Factor Malta Sea- son 2 Winner- Destiny will be one of the top collaborations of the year. 'Mistake' is one of the tracks featured on Red Electrick's award winning album 'Tragic Optimistic' and has been re- vamped to feature the distinc- tive and soulful vocals of Desti- ny. The track has been released this morning on radio airwaves along with a music video which has Steven Levi Vella's artistic imprint all over it and which amps up the heat and will get temperatures rising from the very first shot and opening notes. The video also features the talented dance troupe that wowed Malta on Malta's Got Talent. Live gigs may be at a halt right now but we cannot wait for the day to eventually see this col- lab come to life on a stage. In the meantime rest assured that artists like Red Electrick will be keeping the music scene alive with their music until the day comes when they can get back on stage and perform to sold out shows and crowds. Song was written by Joe Ro- scoe, Peter Borg, Aleandro Spi- teri Monsigneur and Ivan Borg, produced and mixed by Peter Borg at local music studio Rail- way Studios. 'Mistake' is one of the tracks featured on Red Electrick's award winning album 'Tragic Optimistic' and has been re-vamped to feature the distinctive and soulful vocals of Destiny
