maltatoday | SUNDAY • 28 MARCH 2021 12 COMMERCIAL MAPFRE Malta organise fundraising activity for St Patrick's Home for boys MAPFRE Malta's CSR committe organized an event for staff with the aim to collect funds to- wards Dar Osanna Pia as well as Dar Mamma Margherita. These two homes are being taken care of by the Salesians of Don Bosco. The Salesians are a Roman Catholic religious organisa- tion founded in the late nine- teenth century by Don Bosco, an Italian priest. He dedicated his life working for children and youth, establishing orato- ries and houses, and creating the Salesian Family which to- day is a world-wide and vibrant organisation encompassing several entities. The Salesians have been present in Malta ev- er since 1903. They strive to provide their youngsters with a home that welcomes, a parish that evan- gelises, a school that prepares them for life, and a play- ground where friends can meet and enjoy themselves in Malta, the Salesians operate in a wide range of environments, provid- ing an educative-pastoral expe- rience in a number of residen- tial homes, schools, churches and youth centres. Dar Osanna Pia and Dar Mamma Margherita are hous- ing 21 young men who found themselves without the care and support of their families. The Salesians of Don Bosco have taken it upon themselves to provide for their accom- modation and their education. The Salesian Family strongly believe that once these young men finish their academic courses, they will be able to build their lives independently without remaining entrapped in the poverty cycle, striving to "make people of good will and honest citizens" out of these young men. The Salesians of Don Bo- sco used the funds donated by MAPFRE Malta towards a gym project for the residents. In view of the implications of COVID-19 and the imposed quarantine measures that came with it, this donation provided the NGO with the ability to set up an outdoor gym for its res- idents, which both helped in bringing out the best of them and provided them with an initiative to keep active and remain healthy during these challenging times. "As one can imagine, it is not easy to keep 14 healthy young men indoors for a weekend, let alone for so many weeks," said Fr. Savio Vella, home director of Dar Osanna Pia. "Your do- nation has provided us with the necessary push to set up an outdoor gym which served the residents with the right solu- tion", he added. Despite the challenges and struggles that these residents have had to face for a number of years, this fundraising activ- ity will assist them in their ed- ucation and finding a place for themselves in society. Melita launches 5G information campaign MELITA Limited has started re- leasing a series of informational videos on 5G. The videos, which explain the background and benefits of this latest evolution in mobile telecommunications, are being published in the Help Centre of the Melita website and on the company's YouTube channel. In addition to learning more about 5G through these vide- os, the public can continue to monitor the results of the 5G trial which Melita began on its Ericsson network last Sep- tember. These results which are available at www.melita. com/5Gtrial show that the net- work meets all EU and interna- tionally recognised standards. Transmitting 5G signals on this network has, in fact, resulted in a negligible increase in energy, remaining below 1 per cent of the guidelines established by the WHO recognised ICNRIP. Harald Roesch, CEO at Mel- ita Limited, said, "The results of the 5G trial show that our Ericsson network is perform- ing as expected and that the energy levels being generated are at a small fraction of the scientific guideline global lev- els. That said, as with any new technology we understand that people want clear information. These videos are intended to help answer any questions peo- ple may have and to highlight the great potential of this new generation of mobile technolo- gy. 5G has been already rolled out in more than 60 countries and 5G-enabled devices are be- coming more widely available. It's therefore important for us in Malta to be getting ready for this new era." Among the benefits of 5G which the vid- eos will cover is the increased capacity, very high speeds and much lower latency, meaning the time taken for data to move from one device to another and back again over the mobile net- work. Speeds will reach up to 1,000 megabits per second and latency reduced to 10 millisec- onds, which is faster than the human eye can perceive. A fur- ther benefit is that the number of devices able to connect to one antenna will increase dra- matically. All this will result in a seam- less mobile internet experience for customers. In addition, var- ious new uses will be enabled especially for machine-to-ma- chine communication, the In- ternet of Things and remote collaboration. A practical ex- ample of this would be the re- mote coordination of complex manufacturing processes.
