Malta could become the Euro- pean Unions first ever member state to be in the list that will place the enormous flow of fi- nancial transactions in and out of Malta under scrutiny. But experts in the field assist- ing the Maltese government say Malta is still one of the EU's best performers on compliance in technical ratings. Like other member states, Mal- ta has specifically zero "no com- pliances" in its technical compli- ance report, which is categorised in four pillars: non-compliant, partially compliant, largely com- pliant and compliant. But government aides and ministers have argued there are numerous other European coun- tries with worse compliance re- sults than Malta, all of them hav- ing avoided FATF grey-listing in recent years. Reports this week that the Unit- ed States, the United Kingdom and even Germany want to push for Malta's grey-listing despite a clean bill of health from Council of Europe's Moneyval, is worry- ing the Labour administration. Malta could be facing an FATF grey- list despite obtaining healthier technical compliance ratings than other European countries 3 From Berlin to Malta, the indie rock guitarist's turn to oils MT3 TRUTH IS OF NO COLOUR WWW.MALTATODAY.COM.MT MATTHEW VELLA NATIONALIST Party leader Bernard Grech has tapped the shoulders of popular MEP and European Parliament vice-pres- ident Roberta Metsola, and lawyer and up-and-coming candidate Joe Giglio, to consid- er running for deputy leaders of the PN. But despite his approach, both possible contenders are hoping to see David Agius and Robert Arrigo – elected as deputy lead- ers for parliamentary, and party affairs respectively after Adrian Delia's election as leader – step down from their posts willingly. At least one of the incumbents has communicated to MPs of his reservations that it should be Bernard Grech himself to make his wishes clearly, and personally, to them so that they can resign and make way for new blood.
