maltatoday | SUNDAY • 20 JUNE 2021 7 CULTURE AS part of the Valletta Cultural Agency, The Strada Stretta Con- cept is collaborating with the Department of Art and Art His- tory at the University of Malta and the Società Dante Alighieri for a two-part exhibition series titled 'Strada Stretta Occupy' by Students. The first part of the exhibi- tion will be open to the pub- lic from the 21st to 28th June 2021 and the second part will be open from 2nd to 22nd Ju- ly 2021. The Splendid will be the venue for both exhibitions whilst the Società Dante Aligh- ieri will host the works of the second part as well. 'Strada Stretta Occupy' forms part of The Strada Stretta Con- cept programme under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci. The June exhibition is a col- laboration between the second and third-year Fine Arts stu- dents from the Department of Art and Art History at the Uni- versity of Malta. It will consist of works focusing on various methodological approaches of painting that thematically centre around Dante's Divi- na Commedia to commemo- rate the 700th anniversary of Dante's death. The July instalment of 'Stra- da Stretta Occupy' by Stu- dents will showcase the dis- sertation projects by final year Fine Arts students from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Malta. The students have been researching individual themes that engage with topics of con- temporary relevance, such as with current environmental issues. Furthermore, the ex- hibition will be curated by the students themselves, providing them with the opportunity to present their work to the pub- lic and engage with the local artistic scene. Entrance to both exhibi- tions is free. Please note that due to the current situation, all visitors are to wear a mask and maintain social distancing throughout. For more infor- mation on the event and for updates on visiting regulations please visit The Strada Stretta Concept and the Valletta Cul- tural Agency pages on Face- book. Valletta Cultural Agency, presents 'Strada Stretta Occupy' by students A fun-filled educational summer programme for Heritage Malta student passport holders CHILDREN and teenagers who are Heritage Malta student passport holders can enjoy edu- cational and entertaining activi- ties throughout summer, as part of a programme drawn up by the Education and Outreach Section within the national agency for cultural heritage. In contrast with previous years, all this summer's activ- ities will be held virtually via zoom. There will be two sets of activities – one for students aged between 12 and 15 and another one aimed at younger children. Activities for 12 to 15-year- olds consist of seven sessions in a series named 'Leħħiet fuq l-Istorja', where Heritage Malta experts will trace the history of the Maltese Islands from pre- historic times up to Malta's ac- cession to the European Union. Each session will be 45 minutes long and will include a 20-min- ute animation, a short discus- sion and time for questions and answers. There will be a fee of €5 for each session. The sessions will be held once every fortnight and will be in Maltese, with a maximum of 15 participants each time. Those who register for the whole package of seven sessions will receive a gift. Activities for younger chil- dren will be craft-based. There will be five sessions in all, with themes ranging from mosaics to heraldry, textiles, marine life, and the 'Masterpieces at MUŻA' exhibition. Some of these sessions will be in Mal- tese while others will be in English. Sessions cost €5 each. Along with these two sets of activities, three competitions will be organised for students this summer – once monthly in July, August and September. They will involve photography, essay writing and drawing. More information on how to register for sessions and how to participate in competitions may be accessed in the student passport section on Heritage Malta's website www.heritage- malta.org and on the Facebook page of Heritage Malta's Edu- cation and Outreach Section.
