maltatoday | SUNDAY • 4 JULY 2021 15 COMMERCIAL fer a clear career path for those employ- ees who had reached a certain level of expertise in their field. Using industry standards, this framework established a set of competences (benchmarks) that, once attained, guaranteed career pro- gression. Based on this framework, the Agency concluded its first industrial agreement in 2015. This set salary structures and allow- ances for all levels and positions with- in the Agency, renewable every three years. Establishing a strong team climate & culture A strong Agency workforce comes from having individuals who can not only work well on their own but also effectively within a team. Over the dec- ades various team building programmes were held with the purpose of bringing together employees from different parts of the organisation to participate in fun, yet learning, experiences. As the Agency's workforce changed, the organisation's team building initia- tives had to adapt. Structured corporate activities gave way to more creative so- cial activities that encouraged employ- ees to organise their own events. Today, the Agency boasts of having two team building trusts. The first deals with corporate challenges while the sec- ond addresses the need for employees to socialise and collaborate and share their blessings with those who are less fortunate in society. In many cases, the latter events have a social element that includes donations or giving help to others. An Annual Achievements Day is held at the end of the year. This is the day when the Agency celebrates techno- logical, project and employee achieve- ments. It is also the day when the Agen- cy brings together all its employees to share the vision and direction for the forthcoming year and beyond. Establishing one social heart The Agency's employees demonstrate a strong social responsibility. Through- out these 30 years MITA has, through generous employee donations and ac- tivities, supported various groups. Back in 2001, the Foundation for IT Accessibility (FITA) was created, aid- ing people with disabilities in the use The Agency also established Generous Hearts and MITA Corporate Social Re- sponsibility (CSR) which, in 2017, were incorporated into MITA Cares. Under MITA Cares this social heart continues to grow and today MITA is a major contributor to events organised by the Malta Community Chest Fund (Istrina), Puttinu Cares and National Blood Transfusion Services. Establishing the future The Agency's future is promising and yet challenging. The prevalence of ICT as a backbone of Government's oper- ations puts the Agency at the heart of government infrastructure. As the Agency continues to reprior- itise, and further embark on strategic requirements, it remains confident of attracting and retaining motivated peo- ple who will continue to build on the achievements of the past 30 years.
