Honeys entered in the LIHA Qual- ity Awards are judged by a panel of experts in a blind tasting and scored from 0-100 points. Eligible honeys must pass extensive testing by an independent accredited laborato- ry. Tests include pollen spectrum for floral and geographical source of honey, sugar profile to detect increasingly common adulteration and tests for heat treatment or pas- teurization. There are four awards ranging from bronze to platinum, with gold being reserved for honeys that score from 85.5 to 95.0 out of a maximum possible score of 100. Golden Island Ltd. entered sam- ples from its Summer Honey (wild thyme – Saghtar) harvest taken from one of its 15 apiaries which it manages across Malta. Golden Island maintains hives at the San Anton and Verdala Palaces, various Heritage Malta sites as well as Mal- ta International Airport. Golden Island Ltd produces three harvests annually Spring (multi floral from Borage, Clover, Citrus and Wild Thistle), Summer (mono floral – wild thyme – Saghtar) and Autumn Honey (multifloral – Carob and Eu- calyptus). Golden Island brand of gourmet raw honey awarded Gold at London International Honey Awards Cyprus Airways launches twice-weekly route to Malta MALTA International Airport welcomed Cyprus Airways with a water cannon salute to mark its maiden voyage from Larnaca Airport last Sunday morning. The twice-weekly flight route is set for Wednesdays and Sun- days and Cyprus Airways is offering a zero penalty fee for flight changes on basic fare tickets. The route will con- nect visitors flying from Malta to Larnaca via its internation- al network to Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Skiathos, Preveza, Prague, Moscow, Saint Peters- burg, Rome, Tel Aviv, and Bei- rut. Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) Chairman, Gavin Gulia welcomed the route's first pas- sengers and the Cyprus Air- ways crew to Malta. To mark the occasion, passengers re- ceived a gift from MIA. "I am honoured and excit- ed that Cyprus Airways has decided to partner with Mal- ta, particularly at this critical juncture, as we engage on the path of tourism recovery and economic restoration follow- ing a devastating COVID-19 pandemic. I take this opportu- nity to extend a warm Maltese welcome to you and to express our sincere appreciation for your partnership," he said. Cyprus Airways COO George Mavrocostas said: "We are de- lighted to be part of the tour- ism recovery in Malta and we look forward to welcoming many Maltese passengers with us on the route to Cyprus. Emirates is also set to resume Malta-Dubai flights with usu- al stop in Larnaca on July 14 which were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Emirates flight EK 109 will depart Du- bai every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 8am, arriving in Larnaca at 11:10am. The flight leaves Larnaca at 12:20pm, ar- riving in Malta at 2:05pm.
