EYEWITNESS
Hours after the publication of the
public inquiry report investigating
the state's role in Daphne Caruana
Galizia's murder, activists and NGOs
congregated in protest outside the
prime minister's office at Castille.
The report said that the Maltese State
has to bear responsibility for her death,
while identifying several shortcomings
that contributed to the assassination.
NGO Repubblika laid out several
demands in light of the report's
publication, namely that the State
should formally apologise and offer
compensation to Daphne Caruana
Galizia's family.
It also demanded that Cabinet resign
immediately, to be replaced by a
governent that excludes all those
deemed responsible for the offences
idenified in the inquiry report.
Clemence Dujardin of Occupy Justice
said Thursday's conclusions are not
a victory for government, "but a
disgrace".
"Prime Minister, we are spelling this
out for you, loud and clear - we don't
want to hear your bullshit analysis, we
want to hear a sincere apology," she
said.
Addressing the protest, a Moviment
Grafitti activist said Caruana Galizia's
murder stemmed from the inaction
against corruption.
He said the close relationship between
big business and politicians lead to the
deterioration of the rule of law.
