maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 JANUARY 2022 4 MUSIC The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra presents a night of chamber music at Teatru Manoel THE MPO returns to the his- toric Teatru Manoel for Nuit Musical, a night dedicated to a delightful programme of inti- mate oeuvres. The stage and stalls of the 18th Century theatre will be brimming with music based on a repertoire which show- cases instruments' versatility through charming duets.. MPO (Malta Philharmonic Orchestra) principals and fel- low musicians perform intently selected chamber pieces, such as a work composed by Bee- thoven for himself and his cel- list friend Nikolaus Zmeskall. The humorously titled Duet for viola and cello "with two eyeglasses obbligato" will be interpreted by Nadia Debono and Nora Karakousoglou. Clarinetist Giuseppe Recchia teams up with pianist Chris- tine Zerafa for Carl Maria von Weber's intricate masterpiece Gran Duo Concertante, exud- ing brilliant virtuosity from both instruments. Finally, harpist Britt Arend with French horn player José García Gutiér- rez showcase lyrical beauty in Saint-Saëns' Romance, Duver- noy's Deuxième Nocturne and Franz Strauss' Nocturno. Nuit Musicale follows a series of events keeping up the hybrid model the orchestra has adopt- ed, with its last appearance at Teatru Manoel being for An Evening with Beethoven and Impression, Malta – chamber live and online productions held during the 21/22 Concert Season. It will also be the final performance in Malta before the orchestra sets off again on International touring, partici- pating in the Symphonic Mid- dle East Festival 2022 in Dubai. Taking place on 5 February, Nuit Musicale is presented with the support of Bank of Valletta, in accordance with all current health protocols, with valid vaccination certificate required at entry. Tickets can be bought from teatrumanoel. com.
