MALTA OFF FATF GREYLIST
PAUL COCKS
THERE is common consensus among
financial institutions and financial ser-
vices practitioners that getting off the
FATF's greylist was crucial for Malta.
However most also seem to agree on
the need to remain vigilant, maintain
the standards achieved and not repeat
the mistakes of the past, BusinessTo-
day has learned.
Kenneth Farrugia, director of the
Finanacial Intelligence Analysis Unit
was blunt in his assessment following
the FATF's decision.
"We are not perfect," he said. "It is
imperative we don't allow ourselves to
slip back to where we were at in 2018."
KURT SANSONE
GOVERNMENT will take back almost
45,000sq.m of land at Smart City, part of
which will be leased out to the American
University of Malta in two back-to-back
deals.
e details are found in two resolutions
that Economy Minister Silvio Schembri
has presented to members of parliament's
National Audit Committee on Wednesday.
e land swap also sees the Żonqor Point
area originally granted to AUM being re-
turned to the government.
