13 NEWS maltatoday | SUNDAY • 24 JULY 2022 PN takes the bigger hit as support for major parties keeps slipping Methodology The survey was carried out between Wednesday 6 July and Thursday 14 July 2022. 652 respondents opted to complete the survey. Stratified random sampling based on region, age and gender was used to replicate the Maltese demographic. The estimated margin of error is 4.2% for a confidence interval of 95% for the overall results. Demographic and sub- group breakdowns have significantly larger margins of error. The PL beats the PN among men and women, across all age groups and in all regions apart from one. KURT SANSONE BOTH major political parties have shed support since May, a Malta- Today survey shows with the Na- tionalist Party taking the bigger hit. Support for the Labour Par- ty stands at 42%, a decline of 1.9 points since the last survey held in May, while support for the PN stands at 25.8%, a three-point de- cline. The steeper decline by the PN means that the gap between the parties in MaltaToday's July survey has widened further to 16.2 points. Support for ADPD stands at 2%, while that for other small parties stands at 0.9%. The PL beats the PN among men and women, across all age groups and in all regions apart from one. The PL retains 84.6% of those who voted for it in the March election. However, 10.6% of 2022 Labour voters say they are unsure how to vote if an election is held tomor- row, while 3.9% will not vote. No Labour voters indicated they will vote PN. Meanwhile, the PN retains 73.6% of its March election voters but loses 4.7% to ADPD and 3.8% to Labour. Additionally, 11.4% of PN voters are unsure how to vote if an election is held tomorrow and 6.5% will not vote. These figures suggest that the PL's losses to apathy are partial- ly mitigated by PN voters shifting their allegiance to the party in gov- ernment. A breakdown of figures by age group shows that the PL beats the PN soundly across the board. Among young voters (16-35), the PL scores 30.3% against the PN's 18.2%, while among pensioners both parties achieve their best re- sult – the PL's support stands at 54.3% and that of the PN at 35.8%. On a geographical basis, the PL leads everywhere apart from the Western region, where the PN ob- tains 35.7% against Labour's 33.3%. This represents the PN's best re- sult. In Gozo, the PL scores 48.1% with the PN managing 25.2%. The PL obtains an absolute majority of 52.7% in the South-Eastern region, its best result, against the PN's 23.5%. The PN's worst result is in the Southern Harbour region, where it scores a dismal 19.5% against the PL's 46.1%. Which political party would you vote for if an election were to be held tomorrow?
