THE magnificent Fort St An-
gelo in Birgu will lend itself
beautifully as a vantage point
from where one can watch the
spectacular display offered by
the Malta International Fire-
works Festival on Sunday 30th
April.
Visitors may start their
evening with a stroll around
the fort, which boasts a history
of at least 800 years. All areas
of the fort will be available to
explore, except Upper Fort St
Angelo which is administered
by the Sovereign Military Or-
der of Malta.
Wine and light snacks may be
purchased on site.
Anyone wishing to attend is
required to buy tickets before-
hand. Admission prices are €12
for adults, €8 for Heritage Mal-
ta members and €5 for children.
Tickets are available at any
Heritage Malta museum or site,
but may also be purchased on-
line here: https://heritagemal-
ta.mt/store/e1171/. Doors will
be open from 19:30 onwards.
During the long weekend from
Saturday 29th April till Mon-
day 1st May, Fort St Angelo
will also be hosting the intrigu-
ing event Castrum Maris – The
Marquisate of Malta, brimming
with historical re-enactments
portraying life during the reign
of King Martin I of Sicily.
Peasants, weavers, mattress
makers, tailors, cloth dyers,
corsairs, blacksmiths, falconers
and traders will be among those
entertaining visitors. A siege
will also be re-enacted at 15:00
each day.
Opening hours will be from
10:00 till 18:00, with last admis-
sions at 17:30. Tickets will only
be available at the door. Adults
will be admitted at the normal
price, while Heritage Malta
members and children enter
free of charge.
