Forces sits down with the de- partment heads of the AFM's airwing and C-Company, the po- lice's Special Intervention Unit and Mounted Section, and the Civil Protection Department's maritime division. Each branch faces varied chal- lenges, encompassing recruit- ment, managing job pressures, and coping with the psychological burdens of daily frontline expo- sure to danger. Special Officer Malcom Sam- mut, stationed at the Special In- tervention Unit, discussed the unit's function as the final option in high-pressure scenarios. The SIU undergoes training for hos- tage situations, barricaded sub- jects, and various other circum- stances. Kurt Micallef, a police constable from the Mounted Section, spoke about the role of mounted police in crowd control, protests and the police's community outreach. Airwing Commanding Officer Nicholas Grech explained the unit's role in reconnaissance and rescue missions carried out by the army. AFM OC Company Joseph Tabone from the AFM C-Com- pany explained the army elite squad's job in coordinating and taking the lead in high-stake op- erations on land. He also speaks about the company's past in- volvement in both local and for- eign operations.
