maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 APRIL 2024 3 ART Array of offerings in Malta Society of Arts' summer courses schedule Applications are open for visual, applied and performing arts courses taking place over the summer months in Valletta. THE Malta Society of Arts (MSA) is excited to announce the launch of its summer cours- es schedule, set to kick off in July. Featuring an array of of- ferings in visual, applied, and performing arts, the schedule, hosted at the MSA's headquar- ters at Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta, welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels. New additions to this year's lineup include acting and drama workshops tailored for adults and a course in charcoal and pencil drawing. Building on the success of previous years, these popular courses aim to provide participants with engaging and enriching experiences. Actor and educator Yvette Grech Buhagiar will lead the acting and drama workshops catering to participants aged 16 and above. Younger aspiring thespians can join these work- shops under the tutelage of pop- ular actor and teacher Emanuel Cassar. Through these sessions, students will delve into various aspects of theatrical perfor- mance, including voice, move- ment, character development, and improvisation. Participants will learn how to use the acting space, explore a character, de- vise a dialogue, be spontaneous and sharpen their physicality on stage. The Acting and Drama series of workshops for both kids and grown-ups encourages creativ- ity and confidence, and helps participants gain flexibility and versatility, while bringing fun and magic to the process. The workshops are open to beginners as well as more ex- perienced actors who wish to keep strengthening their acting chops. For aspiring artists, the MSA is offering a Pencil and Char- coal Drawing course for the first time. Facilitated by in- structor Matthew Shirfield, this course, aimed at beginners aged 15 years or over, offers a unique opportunity to explore funda- mental drawing techniques and theories. Participants will devel- op their observational skills and gain insight into the art of draw- ing, utilising pencils and char- coal to create expressive works. Due to popular demand, the Creative Writing course makes its debut as a summer offering, covering essential storytelling techniques such as character development, plot construc- tion, and worldbuilding. With limited spaces available, early application is encouraged for those eager to hone their writ- ing skills. The summer schedule also fea- tures a diverse range of courses in crafts, including lace-making, embroidery, knitting, crochet, sewing, dressmaking, and tai- loring. Visual arts enthusiasts can enjoy workshops in nude human figure painting, clay modelling, portraiture, and art lessons for children and adults of all ages and levels, while music enthusiasts can explore courses in pianoforte, violin, and guitar. "As we prepare to embark on another summer of creativity and learning, we are thrilled to unveil our comprehensive line- up of courses catering to a wide range of interests," says Adrian Mamo, President of the Malta Society of Arts. "At the MSA, we remain committed to foster- ing artistic talent and providing a supportive environment for individuals to explore their pas- sions."
