maltatoday | SUNDAY • 5 MAY 2024 4 ALMANAC My essentials JULIE JAMES Singer and entertainer I was born in Leicester England and went to dancing classes from the age of around four. The dance teacher soon discovered I had quite a strong singing voice so that was developed along with the dancing. I've been singing ever since. 5 1. Book 2. Film 3. Internet 4. Music 5. Place I can always listen to Bryan Adams, Mick Hucknall and Simply Red, Harry Connick Jr. Great voices, they are in- credibly relaxing to listen to. Also love Andy Williams, Mel Torme for the same reason. I really don't have any pref- erences on destinations. Can't even think of trav- elling too far at the mo- ment. That said, I must say I enjoy cruising very much, so the destination is secondary to the actual cruising experience. How- ever, I definitely wouldn't say no to a cruise visiting Iceland. Also, having en- joyed the midnight sun whilst in Norway, I quite fancy seeing the Northern Lights one day. I hear they are quite spectacular. I enjoy reading James Pat- terson. Short, sharp, concise chapters. Keeps the pace go- ing nicely. I also like Jeffrey Archer and Dean Koontz. I need a book to grab me from the first page and then I can go with it. I'M currently watching Dex- ter: New Blood. I watched all of the original Dexter se- ries and loved it. I've also watched The Blacklist and The Handmaid's Tale. All these series have a great cast of actors. Get the casting right and with a strong story I can sit back and enjoy. I also love a good British drama WHILE I don't follow per- sonalities – I do follow pod- casts; like the ones on BBC Sounds. I love a good drama, and some comedy. I often lis- ten to the classic comedies like "Round the Horn". These have stood the test of time and I can repeat them and never tire of them Compiled by Laura Calleja suggestions by email lcalleja@mediatoday.com 1 This page is supported by Arts Council Malta 3 2 4
